How the heck to tell the difference?? The boys just woke up, and Locutus has alot of staining on his nose, and around his nose. He's never had porphyrin before. His eyes are ok. He seems ok otherwise, although going back to sleep again I think...they just woke up, moved to the top level, Hugh's grabbing a snack and Locutus has hopped into the hammock. It's a bit early for them to be awake so I'm not concerned that he's gearing up for another snooze. I heard a bit of sneezing (this morning I think it was...I was half asleep). Hugh sneezes from time to time so I assumed it was him. The last couple of days they were housed in the bedroom since it was so warm and that's where the a/c is. It wasn't unduly cold in there (not below 20C/70F). Can a/c affect them negatively -- maybe the coolant? Other thoughts? Thanks! Linda

Just my opinion, I wouldn't think the a/c. Maybe he got punched in the nose by Hugh? Or he ran into something. Usually, I see porphyrin when they develop a bedding allergy. I would think blood would look a little different - darker, stickier, slightly translucent in comparison. But my gerbs never had enough for me to really examine it closely. Glad mine don't have it as I kiss their noses several times a day. Best wishes.
