From the two dwarf hamsters I got, I think they are both female. They quarrel over food, "Why are you cuddling me??'' No it was funny there was a peice of food and Sugar wanted it, but Spice thought she was cuddling her so she squealed and ran away. And, Suger was eating a peice of Habitrail Hamster Mix and SPice came up and did this little cat-fighty thing and Suger just dropped her food, stared blankly at Spice for one sec, and did what Spice did to her and ran away. It was so funny!!!

Cat-fight thing, like screeching at each other, or clawing at each other?
I've never seen dwarfs fussing at each other, it just sounds like a very interesting image, and I can't quite make it out.
They sound very adorable.

Aww cute! Be a bit careful though, as the squealing is a sign of distress. I had 2 females living together that did that, and it ended with one getting a severe bite from the other. I'd be checking for wounds as they can be difficult to spot.

Well, the cat-fight thing was not serious, only just like play-fighting.

It is interesting with gerbils when they eat they are always so polite and never push or shove or get in squabbles. That's more than people do.

My male gerbils are greedy little things and will grab the best thing and hide from the other. The women, of course, have excellent etiquette though

Lol... ...your hammies reminded me of my 2 dwarves. Benny & Theo (yes their male names, but their both females) they used to do that a lot! I had to separate Benny & Theo while I gave them their food. I took Benny out & gave them seeds, corn, etc & when they both had their little pouches full I would put the bowl back in their home. What you're calling cat fights, my 2 did also. But it was, & it sounds to me that yours are like this too with the squealing, it sounds like they are having domiance issues. One wants to be the strongest while the other one obeys & it goes back & forth. I would be careful, one day b/c of this dominance fighting I had to separate my 2 dwarves. They lived alone for the rest of their lives & they liked it. But if Sugar & Spice (btw cute names) aren't really hurting each other (ex: no blood) I would just reach your hand down in their cage & break them up. That's what I always used to do. Anyway, good luck with your girls! They sound cute & dwarves are cute little critters! (fast too!)

My Gang of Four gerbils are funny. When I silently leave a load of food in the bowl in the corner of their 20 gallon tank, it takes 12 seconds for them to smell it, wake up, and come charging over. Greedy they are, but they never push, shove, or squabble. If one can't reach the bowl owing to the crowd, he just waits his turn. One, Cliffy, actually waits until I hand feed him a goody! I am certain he answers to his name when I call (only he comes; the other three do not).
