Just in case my attempts to introduce a new female (if it is a female - see the other thread) to the one I have fail, do they get lonely as gerbils do if kept solitary??

Nope - they seem to be okay on their own. Phoebe seems really happy being alone.

It depends on the hamster, but mine were fine living alone.

Calvin did just fine on his own. He seemed to like the idea of having all that space just to call his own.

OK. Someone else mentioned to me about the issue of whether a tankmate would help another live longer. The droll answer was, "like with people, some mates lengthen your life - and others shorten it"! ;D I guess it is up to us to separate them if they don't get along.
