Asking on behalf of someone else....
My boyfriend recently got two Syberian Dwarf hamsters from Petco. They were youngish, I believe. My bf was EXCELLENT with them. He was the most attentive pet owner I can imagine. He researched their care and worried constantly about their comfort and bought them the best food and accommodations. He got them on Saturday, and by Monday, the smaller of the two was just not active anymore. She curled up and went to sleep where ever she happened to be, including in my hand. She hardly opened her eyes, and her face looked scraggly. We saw the larger one beating up on her and assumed that she had been terrorized until she was weak. We took her back to Petco on Monday night so that she could get medical attention and go to a solo home. (The two of them are sisters and were housed together at Petco.) Now, starting on Wednesday, the other hamster is showing the same symptoms. She doesn't wake up and move about anymore. She bit my bf when he tried to get her to stir. We'll probably take her to Petco tonight. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Why would they suddenly get sick like that? Is there anything that we can do?
(subject line edited for spelling).

I don't know. I so wish I could say something that could help them. The dwarfs I have are now living separately after Jerry went BERSERK when I tried to introduce him to Tad even climbing up and jumping off the screen divider to attack him. At least any contagious diseases can't be spread. Hope someone knows the answer. . .

A degenerative disorder perhaps.
