The eye drops are similar to yours, DF, less the bacitracin.

Hope they work as well on Fuzz as they did with the kitty.

Maybe old age or he/she is bored of eating that. You should try something new like green meadow.

Hi luvmyhammie,
2 years, 4 months--yes, we realize that he's getting older. I've seen other Chinese hams age, and there are similarities here.
Fuzz has a tooth/jaw problem and can't use his incisors. He must be on soft foods. He eats ravenously, so it's not a question of not liking what he's offered.

Being busy of late I've been defaulting mostly to baby food. Right now it's garden vegetables and apples/bananas. At the vet he had carrots and apples/bananas. He eats this stuff right up.
I need to get around to steaming some broccoli for him till it's mush.
Lately he's also gotten cheese (I mash it up with water till it becomes creamy), oatmeal, soaked bran flakes, mashed real banana, yam, and pasta (again, mashed with water till creamy). I haven't given him bread in a bit--should do that.
And he gets the soaked Mazuri.
I have found that all the med-administering goes much better if I wrap him in a towel first.
Tonight I caught him trying to eat a poop! And he couldn't! ;D I had NEVER seen him do that when he was well. . .
Tonight he also tried so hard to bite my lip and nose! And he couldn't do that either. Yes, I am despised, but yet he hangs around me, even when he has alternatives.
I'd say that health-wise he's "stable"--no obvious downturns in the last few days.
The bottom line is that I don't want him to suffer. I'd rather there be a rapid downturn and a quick end as opposed to a long, drawn-out decline that will be hard on both of us.

Maybe the gourmand prefers that over the soft cuisine.
At least he seems stable and in no distress.
Best.

We went on an adventure. Mr. Special Needs went to the boyfriend's house with me for two days. The car ride there was total trauma. I haven't seen him that animated in ages--but it was because he was a stress mess. The furthest he'd been in a car is from the pet store in February 2006. The vet is within walking distance, so that's nothing. This was an hour in a compact car on roads with some bumps. When we got there I put the cage behind a closet door and covered it, and left him alone for several hours. He calmed down and was fine for the rest of the stay. I re-thought how and where he was in the car for the ride back, and things were much better. The eye is maybe a little better. No great strides, though. At least I see the eyeball once in a while now. Since being on the drops he squeaks much less--so maybe there is a benefit I can't see. Today's new soft food was mashed cantaloupe. He had mashed pasta yesterday. Oh, man--did that disappear fast! So we're home again now. He is no doubt relieved. But he will have to get used to this now and again. Fortunately my boyfriend thinks he's great and is happy to have him visit. His teeth are really a mess. Remember what I drew? ll (upper incisors) \\ (lower) They look like this again. Trimming happens on Wednesday.

I used to eat it that way when I lived at home. Now I seldom have ice cream in the house, so it's never a la mode.

What about cheese on a hot apple pie? I never figured out the appeal of that. . .

That's great that Fuzz is doing well! Yeah, car rides are never favorites of hamsters. I think Sophie was wondering what I was doing to her when we went up to NY with her, lol. Chewie is glad to hear his little friend is feeling better and says the tooth vet thing is nothing.
