So, I am this morning taking loads of stuff, mostly boxes and crates, downstairs to be moved to the Storage building in a few hours. During this, one of my "free range" wild agouti mice takes off into the hallway - with me in close pursuit, having quickly grabbed a few towels.
Although this does not compare to the epic cat rescue depicted on this site in January, it took 16 minutes with me running on all fours (if possible) down two flights of stairs after him. the crisis came when I cornered him and he tried to squeeze under someone's door; happily he could not. I soon had a towel on him and pressed it and him against my chest.
Off he went to a temporary home - a very deep trash bin (clean) with food and water. I will deal with him later, but it is way too deep to jump out of.
So, another day, another rescue. I do not abandon my critters, even agouti mice!

Wow, what a day for you so far! Glad you caught your critter. He's wild, yet he lives in a cage and I doubt you're releasing him back into the wild. So how is your mouse wild, but lives in a cage? Not domesticated yet? Sorry, I don't get it.

DF had a couple of litters of mystery Agouti mice born and even with handling from very young (I saw the pictures), they are still very much WILD! Right DF?

Go back to the Mice Forum and look for the thread from early January about that. I also started one about that time (as Zouave) at Pets Hub, before I left it in disgust. The story of the agouti mice should be well known.
BTW, PH killed its Testimonials forum. I guess too many people took my lead and started ragging on them. Now it is just another "give us your feedback" thing - which they wil likely ignore as usual.
Excuse my bad grammar in the first post, which I corrected. It was late and I was distracted.
BAD news: the agouti is "free range" again. He somehow kumped out of a very dep bin (three feet?) and squeezed past a tiny slit for air. That was before I could get him in a cage. I am going to (on the advice of an expert) take all the ADULT male Spiny Mice, all living separately in small cages, and combine them in a 20 gallon with NO females about. It should work out. then I will have cages for the older agoutis.
I will STOP leaving food out - except inside the Havahart trap. We shall see.
