I could throttle my hamster sometimes! He managed to break out of his cage again, as I discovered just now. Gave me a heart attack because my bedroom door was open enough for a hamster to get out of ¬_¬. Thankfully he's a good boy and always goes back to his home when he's sleepy Haven't found anything missing or eaten as yet, although I suspect I'll find something [he's a little thief!]. Hee I love my animals

I imagine that was quite a scare -- good to hear he found his way back home safely.

So what types of objects has he stolen?

He's stolen half a kilo of sunflower seeds from a polythene bag that was obviously in reach of him [I've since learnt to use tupperware!]. He didn't eat them, just stored them in his house [it was overflowing ] He's taken a plastic beaded necklace [don't worry the beads are way too big for him to swallow] He stole some nuts that were for my rats from a box Oh, and a tongue bar.

My horde has managed some incredible escapes, including a tunnel gnawed through the bottom of a Sterilite bin I now have lined with wood; knocking over a wheel and using it to stand on to gnaw a larger opening in the lid airhole; forcing open the hinge of a Habitrail explorer; and, well, you get the idea. I think I am on top of their tricks now. One time I was asleep and woke up with something crawling under the sheets with me. Next thing I felt a hammy crawling up my abdomen, who then sat there looking at me as if that was totally normally behavior. ;D

It is, if you're an escaped hammy looking for affection.

It is, if you're an escaped hammy looking for affection. They are welcome to join me and my teddy bears. Actually, I think they have an affinity to my scent. Even when I am totally silent and out of sight, they sometimes wake up when I am near. Maybe they smell me, not that I am funky or anything.

They could smell you, or hear you -- they can hear pretty well by comparison with people.
Possibly they just feel your presence.
