I'm a bit stumped for ideas really. I make sure all of my animals come out for at /least/ one hour a night for out time, Pee Pee usually gets extra seeing as he is more nocturnal than the others [rats, gerbils] and doesn't get disturbed in the day. The thing is he's beginning to wreck his empire [modular system] and is chewing the bars of one of the modules like mad at night time. I wouldn't mind so much but it makes it difficult for me to sleep [the animals live in my room] and I feel sorry for the poor guy because he obviously wants out. He has plenty of toys and hidey holes and chews to choose from, they're all varied each week and moved about. For some reason he doesn't use the wheel [or any wheel for that matter]. So yeah, suggestions [other than 'earplugs' please ] would be great.

You could try the SAM wheel. Their silent & I know Sophie loves her wheel. B/c she doesn't care for toys & its something for her to do when I go to bed. Maybe you could try the SAM wheel. That's all I can think of; hope it helped.

"Pee pee" had another meaning when I was a little kid, or so my parents told me. ;D I used to sleep with the Gang of Four in the 20 gallon tank a few feet from my head, and thankfully I had silicon earplugs. They were moved out last Summer owing to the second recurrence of a mite problem, one that hasn't resurfaced - so I suppose the logical deduction is that I was the source of the mites! ;D Up until Jan. 5th when Ringy died, I had 15 hamsters and 12 gerbils in the Rodent Room, the former living room. I do not live in the living room; the cacaphony was quite impressive when I got home a little while ago, especially those big Comfort Wheels spining away (I do recommend them); or, Twin Spin wheels removed from their bases and attached to the side of a bin. The hamsters really like climbing in those things, I suppose as they feel safer being more enclosed (as with a Wodent Wheel). There is only so much I can do to entertain them. Basically, they get moved into several play bins (one Ringy's old digs), or they switch habitats with another ham, and I scatter around a little food and kashi for them to forage after; they also like checking out the different smells and trying the other types of wheels. Plus, I have a few hamster balls. I also handle them and sing to them, which for some reason they seem to like, not that I ever studied at a music conservatory; I couldn't even make the school glee club. I was in the band, but I doubt if they want to hear my famous solo of LeRoy Anderson's "Trumpeter's Lullaby". They WILL attempt to chew their way out of a cage if they see you there. Those in cages quickly stop doing that when I leave and turn the lights out (I listen around a corner). Put something such as black construction paper over the cage, but be carefully with shirts. I once out a shirt over a cage, and soon after a large part of it had been pulled into the cage and gnawed on! One other thing. . . Critter Trail (I think) has a hamster maze, but I can't find it in stores. maybe I will check a Petco tomorrow, but I have seen it online and once posted a photo of it in this forum. So a maze is another option. What I wish they had is a hamster bell or ID of some kind so I could let them loose to wander around for awhile, but I could always find them when needed.
