These didn't come out too well - it's hard to take pictures of bats, because they fly away so quickly

Bat photos are hard indeed; at the Bronx Zoo they are usually flying, and the guards frown on flash photos. Can someone tell me the name of that cayman they caught in CP lake and who I think is still in the Children's Zoo? It's vexing I can't recall. Here's the cayman! No bats here, but one night while doing some squirrel feeding in the park I saw a giant squirrel on a big branch: I handed him a peanut and was surprised he was awake. . . I was even more surprised when in the dark he turned out to be a raccoon. Try to also catch the orchids. It will brighten your spirits as fine art does. I think today I will eschew the gym and hit the opening of the new Brooklyn Museum of Art, which just finished a major reconstruction. BMAAnd the magnolias are currently in full bloom!

We saw the cayman, but I didn't catch his name.
I was amazed to see that Breezy, the geriatric sea lion, was still alive though. Last summer she looked like she was about to go, and here she is, still sitting on her rock.
Have fun today - it's beautiful at long last!

For those who don't know, Breezy has lasted much longer than sea lions usually do, and seems happy enough despite being blind. And here she is:

Poor thing never moves from that spot, but she is being well cared for. She is over 30 now, and the usual lifespan in the wild is 20 years.

What more does one need when you have a nice flat warm rock? Ever spot the red panda? It is always an adventure to locate where he is sleeping in the trees! I have never seen one move ever in any zoo. Maybe they are all stuffed plush thingees, like the one I got from the Bronx Zoo.

The caiman is named Damon. We did spot two red pandas lounging in the trees - we lucked out and one of them even stretched a bit before resettling himself. We also saw two otters go at it - we reported it to the guard who contacted the animal group to tell them about the fight. We sort of lucked out with the bats - I think they must have just put some fresh food out and that's why they kept stopping at the bowls.

The caiman is named Damon. Ah ha! Mystery solved. That is one less thing to obsess me. Within two weeks, I will pass through CP - camera, and many extra batteries, in tow. I will keep an eye on the otters. . . I do hope I see a polar bear swimming; they have HUGE paws when they press them against the glass.

The polar bears weren't very active when we were there. They were hiding out in the shade under the walkways, trying to ignore the people.

That's a cute shot of the polar bear, DF. I wish they were swimming when we were there, because it's so cute to watch.
