With Easter coming up we have noticed many "bunny blowouts" at pet stores, and we know many of them will end up abandoned or dumped back on the pet store by unthinking people. This is true with many animals, such as dalmatians after a certain Disney movie, or unexpected "gift" animals at Christmas. This site has long needed a forum where animal rescue groups can post of their locations and activities. Here is that forum. I will add to it in due course, as will others. I will post URL links to here in other sites and in e-mails. Please tell us of your groups, and of any animal rescue stories you have.

I've contacted some rescue groups and invited them to start threads here plugging their groups. Every little bit helps.

By the enterance to my school there was a dwarf hamster cage put out with a big sign that said 'FREE FOR THE TAKEING' my friends and I took the cage inside the school and showed it to our teacher. She asked us t check if there was a hamster in there so we took off the lid and found the poor thing in a corner shivering! It looked like a very young hamster, she had NO food No water and barely any bedding. The cage had several holes and cracks. We looked for any hints towards what kind of a hamster she was [what kind of a dwarf] but we were scared to take her out since she was terrified!!
Our teacher is a total animal person so she hurried off to the mall and bought her, food, a water bottle, treats and a new cage! {pls.Bedding and a litter box}
We were all so thankfull to her. After we set up everything in her new cage we carefully picked her up with a cup and put her down gently. She spent about a minut at the food bowl and 'poof' it was all gone! She drank half of the waterbottle and carried the pieces of cloth that we left inside her cage for blankets to a corner and went to sleep.
Our teacher decided we should post-pone our fieldtrip and help the hamster out (Something I thought no teacher would ever do!) We looked around for pwoplw who were willing to take her in, we made posters and set them up, we actually phoned a few pet stores to find out if they knew who had bought her!
We found the person's phone number at the pet shop that they bought her from. We took a deep breath and our teacher called them.
"hello, may I please speak to the owner of a dwarf hamster?" she behan and a 10-13 year old boy answered "yup, that's me but Sassy escaped and ran away from us, then her cage was stolen!". Our teacher was shocked for a moment and then she asked to speak to the boy's parents. They weren't home. She hung up and forgot about it, obviosly his parens didn't want 'Sassy'
Now Tammy [Tami] is our class pet. For finding her though,next year she comes with me to my new class! And so on.. But we all share her ^-^

That's AWESOME. Not about her being abandoned of course, but about her finidng a good home at the school,with alot of caretakers. Poor thing..... Those parents should be ashamed of themselves!! That's terrible, getting rid of her and then telling their kid that she ran away and her cage got stolen. Some people! I am glad that Tami was fortunate to have found smart, caring humans at the school, at what sounds like was JUST in time. I hope you have many happy days with her. Your teacher sounds like an amazing individual too. This sort of thing really tugs at the heart strings for me.

Have you told us about your Syrian (you said you had a Syrian, right?)?

The manager of a local pet store oncve found a large box with FIFTEEN dirty dwatfs in dirty bedding inside, She rescued them all. I once went into that store and was offered a rescued guinea pig who had just been found wandering in a park. That was Adrienne, and she sadly died a few days later. So may examples of people being people - being rotten. I just noticed Adrienne is not in my Memorial Photo Gallery. I will add her tonight.

Yea, we forgot to take down the fliers though. Someone called the school, she wanted to adopt Tami. We decided to check the person out. She turned out to be a hamster specialist that loved animals! She has 2 syrians and 4dwarfs at home now, 5dwarfs.
She breeds them sometimes but not very often. Tami seemed to like her too and she knew how to treat Tami, she showed us the cage she had picked out for Tami, the bedding food and everything.
We were happy she found a very good home and we come to visit Tami at her office sometimes!

I run a rodent rescue in Fargo, ND. Instead of posting about it, I thought it would be easier to just post a link to my website: www.another forum.com/someone/ Before you buy, please adopt!
