Yes it was informative! This week is a dog from Japan called the Hokkaido Dog and they're said to be fearless, loyal, and well-behaved. I have one in my story that I finished some months ago named Rebel. Here they are: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hokkaido_(dog)

I assume a spitz type? >>This breed has the unusual capability of fighting against the Hokkaido Brown Bear, or Higuma to protect its master. The way in which the Ainu Dog accomplishes this is to scurry up the bear's back and sink its upper and lower incisors full force into the dorsal flesh of the bear's neck until the bear retires<< Whoa!

Yes, they're a spitz type breed and here's another for this week, the Jindo from Korea and they're said to be a good guard dog, loyal, and active. This is them here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_Jindo_Dog

>>there are many examples of older Jindos being adopted out of shelters in the United States and becoming very loyal friends to their new owners. They are highly active and are certainly not indoor-only dogs<<
Interesting.
Nice looking dog.
I didn't think Koreans cared much for dogs. I know Muslims hate dogs - which is disgusting. Care to comment on those two issues?

I'm not sure about how other people, such as the Koreans and Muslims, treat their dogs. I know most roam the streets and some are killed while cows are sacred. My friend went to Costa Rica and said there were stray dogs all over the place. This week is another spitz type dog called the Kishu and they're from Japan and said to be brave, docile, and content. This is them here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kishu

jeeez. I missed the one from June 20th. Cows are sacred to Hindus. Muslims butcher cows, goats and lambs in such a manner it has helped push me towards vegetarianism. Muslims consider dogs unclean and will not associate with them., I am fairly certain the Koran forbids animal cruelty and abuse, supposedly. I know they can have cats as there is one in a local store who has a cat, at least in his store - Olga, and she is treated well. They do believe black dogs are evil, which is how I feel about the Koran! >>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s55-7kRp8KU<< Iranian fatwa against pet dogs! >>http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100628/FOREIGN/706279889/1135<<

Ew, that dog is ugly with the split nose! It looks like a Staffordshire Bull Terrier to me and no, I have never heard of that breed. This week is the Polish Hound from where? Where else, Poland! They're said to be lovely, meek, and are good hunting dogs. This is them here: www.furrycritter.com/resources/dogs/Polish_Hound.htm

>> Like most mammals, dogs are dichromats and have color vision equivalent to red-green color blindness in humans.<<
That means they can see blue but not red and green??
>>Different breeds of dogs have different eye shapes and dimensions, and they also have different retina configurations. Dogs with long noses have a "visual streak" which runs across the width of the retina and gives them a very wide field of excellent vision, while those with short noses have an "area centralis" - a central patch with up to three times the density of nerve endings as the visual streak — giving them detailed sight much more like a human's.<<
I never knew that!
Most of the information on that site is not specific to that breed. But interesting.

Most of the information on that site is not specific to that breed. But interesting. ^There are some breeds that are harder to find for information sakes, so when I saw this one (for the Polish Hound), I went with it. It said a lot more than other sites. This week is the pretty Russo-European Laika and they're from Russia and are said to be: fearless, a good guard dog, and they love to please their owners. This is them here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo-European_Laika
