Early in March someone dumped a litter of just weaned Syrians in a pet store I frequent. A week later I helped out taking two females (to minimize future litter issues) home. At that point all my other hams had died except Cal, whose brothers, Jerry and Eric, are in the memorial photo gallery in my signature. So I had room. Cal is not young, so who knows how long he has. I kept them together for a week, they were about five weeks old, and then Totara ("panda" black and white) moved into the old Crittertrail2, which was originally Princess' and then Maggie's, both sweeties. And a few others. I had to repair the second levels in the cage to keep them up. Rimu, a slate color, clearly not black, is in a ten gallon tank, now with a bigger wheel as she put grew the other. She is happy with it. She may outgrow that soon. We shall see. Rimu Totara

Cute. Do you need Crittertrail cage parts? I have extra I can send.

Nothing much to add, except Rimu and Totara are moving to a 20 and a 25 gallon tank. This is the result of natural mouse attrition. Better for them. I will add toys and stuff to explore. BTW. It turned out Rimu was really a guy!

I hope they like their bigger digs. I need toys, but I have the big wooden hide boxes ready!

Rimu moved into a 20 gallon with two different wheels and other stuff. Oddly, the ham sleeps buried in bedding avoiding the wooden hide box that is a perfect size.
Totara goes to a better place soon, too.

Totara was just moved into a Crittertrail Classic and quickly found the tube to the habitat "upstairs", where she is sleeping now in plain sight, under the red plastic container. She will go in a 20 gallon tank when I get a bigger wheel and a hamster sized wooden hide box. Rimu, meanwhile, has moved into his hide box.

So, they are both about a year old!! Happy Birthday! They are living peacefully and safely in 20 gallon tanks with a big wooden house, large wheel, tubes, and other stuff. They sleep a lot! Being solitary, I am sure they are happy. Just thought I would update them. Rimu is the guy, btw.

Rimu and Totara remain just fine each in a 20 gallon tank with tubes and wheels and big houses. They are each about 15 months old now! Time flies! I suppose in a week I'll clean their tanks, and vary their toys. That's it!

Yea. A few days ago I got teared eyed thinking of Poppy - then called "Poopy"! - when I was commenting on rabbit names. I can recall the instant I saw the little bunny in a 20 gallon tank like it happened a minute ago. I can recall carrying him up in my arms. I recalled months later flipping him over and THEN figuring out I had a MALE!! I had been told Poppy was a girl, and his personality never changed. I remember him hiding once for three days! I remember much - as you do about Bo.

I found Totara dead today. Might have been the awful heat wave that took a few others. See Memorial forum Rimu is fine. I moved some gerbils into Totara's 20 gallon tank. Let me add that the CT2, and CC habitats are down right now.I think they are too small for Syrians; might work out for some dwarfs.
