She is a black and white hooded, and the friendliest of the current bunch. She liked to perform rodenistry on me nibbling at my teeth when playing. This is common in rats. She was never very big for a rat. But right now she is breathing heavily, and is hunched over in a way I have seen before in rodents. No symptoms other than that. Nature is taking its course, for whatever unexplained reason. She is not young, but not old, either. If she is going to pass I hope she does it peacefully. As always, at least she was here and loved.

Two hours later she is on my chest on a tee-shirt under my regular shirt sniffing around. She looks better than I expected. No odd noises. No poops. Maybe she will be OK! Now she is walking around my neck, frisky! I think I'd better put her back in case she is hungry or thirsty.
We shall see.
OK, I put her back and she walked down the ramp and drank. . .
We hope for the best.

Glad she is bouncing back. Cute photo in the box.
So did that box come from a valentine, and you ate all the chocolates?

Actually, the box was 50% off on 2/15 - so I bought it and I ate it! There was a LOAD of VD stuff on discount, which I suppose says something about the times. I assume you got a big box! Today she looks slightly wobbly but is OK. *shrugs*

Poor girl. She doesn't look as bad as my boys did in their last hours, so that might be some comfort to you. I'm glad to hear she's a bit perkier than she was.

She just seems to be a bit thinner than normal, but otherwise not bad. Thanks. I did lose another spiny mouse a few days ago. Some of those guys were old.

I found her dead several minutes ago. She was curled up against the bars, no signs of anything. Just as I said above a little thinner. She is sitting on my chest right now being petted eyes partially opened, still a little soft. So she died the evening of the 2nd. She joins her brother Rangi. So, do I now STOP getting lovely critters in need as I feel bad? Never have. No more rodentistry from her. She loved to explore on me and nibble my teeth! she was never very big for a rat, but had much personality.
