They all got a nail trimming today, Chris, Ophelia, Sam, and Lester. That's it! Went well. I am good at this now.

Want to come to my place and do bunny nails? I'm always in need of a second pair of hands, as a couple of my bunnies, though Bo in particular i cannot do on my own.

Wish I could get there. It would be relaxing.
I lean on them with my chest pressing them down as I tightly hold a paw.
I was impressed when a friend and pet expert did a dwarf's long nails with just her two hands. That requires dexterity and a perfect scruff!

That's good that it went well. When we trim nails at Paws, our Guinea Pigs are pretty good, the bunnies like Andrea was saying? Yeah, two people are definitely needed!

I used to put Poppy the bunny on his back for trimming. But these two are less likely to trance out quietly. I will do them soon and tell you how it goes! They are next.
BTW, I also once did a dwarfie alone, but it is tricky!

I did a dwarf hammies nails as well, with those little wire cutters when he was holding the bar of a cage. Most of my bunnies and the ones at the shelter I do, i put them on their back and trance them, or cradle others like a baby in my one arm. But Bo doesn't flip, or trance, he just FREAKS. he is very strong, and stresses easily, I think the Rex breed itself is a little different then most bunnies.

I have had some success trimming dwarfie nails, but it ain't easy. That they are Phodopus is the problem for me--I can't see the nails for the hairy feet! It doesn't help that my eyes are old and it's difficult to maintain perfect focus, necessary to tell nails from hair from feet!

Phodopus. Reminds me of when I was a kid watching my father. >>my eyes are old<< What elderly gent did you get them from? Mine are older than yours and I can see closeup very well. But I have a peculiar new stiffness in the small fingers of my right hand - a portent of things to come?!

If I had a car I'd drive over and give you a hand, Andrea! I need to learn how to do it but I'm thinking I might just get the nails done when Sam gets his teeth done. It's hard to see the quick on black nails and I am not experienced enough with doing bunnies to try.
I had a Syrian who's nails grew too long. I'd clip them when he was on the bars as well.

Oddly, I never had a Syrian with really long nails, and I have had dozens, many living two years or more.
My bunnies have black nails. I just sort of know how far down to go from experience.

I hate it when an animal has black nails and either you or someone else as you're watching has to cut them cause you don't know where the quik is. I rather have a dog or any animal have nails that are white (or clear).
The only thing my rodents ever needed was clippings for teeth because Chewie's grew inward towards his mouth.

Well, the rabbits here have black nails. I applied pressure with the clipper to the nail as far down as I thought safe; they did not react so I SNIPPED at that point. That was how I learned how far down to go.
Don't have to go right down to the quick, wherever it is exactly anyway.

Yeah, I've only had one Syrian who's nails needed trimming (they were starting to grow into themselves when I did it). Genetic defect, maybe?

I guess. I have never seen it in a Syrian. Dwarfs I have seen with scaring long nails!
