Robos are a new hammie experience for me. I've always had Syrians. But now that they are here I couldn't imagine not having them. Robos will be a steady in my life. Lyn

I was affraid of dwarf hammies, their reputation to me was MEAN! I took on my first pair of foster boys about 5 years ago. They got adopted, and so I took in more and have had such good experiacnes with them have kept them as pets since. I just got Issabella a few months back after the loss of my #1 Dwarf, Happy Gilmore. I wasn't going to get another, but i felt my home was empty without one.

Dwarf hamsters are only mean if they haven't been handled. If they've been handled since they had fur, they are the sweetest little hammies ever. Mine would crawl up my sleeve and sometimes groom herself in there!
Be forewarned though, dwarfs are FAST!!!

When i got my first Syrine Hamster foster, after having only gerbils (wana see fast? lol) I was told "Welcome to the world of slow" lol... Dwarfs are definetly not that. My favorite about Hammies, is when they think they are being invisable an flatten out as much as they can and run speeding around LOL... get's me laughing everytime.

I have to tell Robin to check out this thread. She is very much a dwarf person.
Even Syrians can move surprisingly fast when they need to.
Looks like one has a mark between the eyes?
I miss having dwarfs, but they are hard to find.

The mark between the one babys eye is where I just petted her with my fingertip. I mussed up her hairdo. I pick them up once a day for 30 seconds each and they are very squirmy, but I do realize they are not for holding just for looking. I have to say I haven't seen a mean or tempermental sidejust a cuddley side. I did get bit on the lip once and thats because i'm a nose kisser and always take that risk.

As you can see I am getting a lot more time of late after an crazy busy week with sports events, political elections, and other stuff to do.
As you saw in my Memorial Gallery, I've had many dwarfs; a few were easily handled. If you want a rodent to handle see the Rats forum. They are the most handleable, friendly, and nice of all, when tamed. They never bite. Never keep one alone, unless a rescue. They can also be introduced to others much easier than gerbils or dwarf. I gave up trying with the last two types.
Feel free to look over old threads and photos. We have many interesting stories and rescues. The kitten rescues threads in Animal Rescues are a great favorite of mine.
I have to update my Memorial Gallery. . . soon. The deceased critters in the Memorial forum over the past several months need to be added to it.

Lyn, I am going to move this to the Dwarfs forum, where I think it may belong better.
Please check out Robin's (Pinky) thread on her new dwarfs in that forum.

I don't handle Issabella much, becuase I hardly see her with her sleep schedule LOL But when i first got her, i kept her in a small habitrail cage so i coudl socialize her more, and give her less room to run away from me. Now she's in a 20g long aquarium, with way to many toys LOL... All i ahve to do it wake her up, let her grumble about being woken up, give her a treat and wait for her to hop onto my hand She's not bitten me, though she tried to nibble. I have to admit i am a bit nervous that she may bite me LOL.. but that doesn't stop me from handling her.

Rimu is my only remaining Syrian. His sister, Totara, died this Summer (See Memorial forum thread). I rarely see Rimu either, and his 20 gallon is seven feet away on a table. I see it now. Once in a great while he comes out for a drink! I was only once bitten by a non-sick Syrian--see "Zeb Strikes Back" in the Hamster forum from about six years ago. Lots of blood shown! it was my fault as I inadvertently pinned all his legs. he lived the longest of Rainy's big litter, all of whom I kept. Their long stories are in the Hamster forum in 2003 and 2004. Much love for them; many memories.

Ahhhh. . . dwarfies! So cute!
Never thought I could have anything but Chinese, and then I got a rescued Campbell's and fell in love with their feisty side. Now I'm a Campbell's girl!
Yeah, I have to update that thread on my "kids" Frasier and Ethel. . . . soon, I hope.
