As I was posting in the Rat forum, Annie is gone. She was a friendly black rat and the last of her group. Her brother died some time ago. I got her 24 months ago when she was likely a few months old or a bit more. She is in this thread with photos. No point in seeing her old and infirm, although I have some recent photos. Better to remember her this way, two years ago.. See also the last post I made in the Rabbit forum which addresses the concerns we have in cases such as this. Her eyes were clearly dehydrating as she stopped eating and drinking. I would not even use a syringe; I just put a typical metal spout in her mouth. But see the Rabbit forum post. I suppose it was merciful; she was not well. Burial after Winter in the usual place. She spent the past few days sleeping next to my bed in a little box. She was not alone. I am actually surprised she lasted this long.

You did a wonderful job taking care of her and she knows it. Have peace of mind about that. RIP Annie

Thanks. We do what we can. As a reminder, the store that sold rats stopped doing that some months ago.
