Got a big medium size parrot cage for the Candy, the Quaker parakeet - which is bigger than a cockatiel. Cost a little over $100, is strong enough, and the bird has lots of room.
The point is if you look online you can find good deals. Made in China of course.
I also have a much larger cockatoo-sized cage, used but in decent shape. Either I sell it (or try to), or get a medium sized bird such as a caique (as a rescue only - much lower cost).
The two level rabbit habitat is still here, and one day will be put to use!

I hope Candy likes the nice bird cage you got her! The caique is a cool looking parrot, would you get the black headed or white bellied one? The White-Bellied Caique is prettier in my opinion.

A friend's black-headed bit me once. That was posted on RR and is still up. I think it was that kind. I posted photos of the bloody fingers. Actually, he might have been just trying to hang on and not go back in the cage. You may recall the thread.
I should have added the new cage has grayish metallic bars. I do not like white as reflect too much lkight and it makes the birds harder to see.
Felicity's cage (the lovebird) hangs from a stand.
I need to clip the wings (or have it done) of the birds, less the clipped Quaker and the small finches. It is for their safety, and it should make them easier to tame.

Yeah but the white birds, the cinques you're talking about, also have color to them. So they're not all white. You don't need to tell me why you clip their wings, we did that at Paws too. I know what it's for.

This is a public board. When I say something about clipping wings it is for EVERYONE'S information, not just yours, which I think should be obvious after all this time. "Cinques"?? >>Definition of Cinque 1. Noun. The cardinal number that is the sum of four and one. << I was talking about caiques, and this is the one my friend had: And this is the thread from 2006 when I got bit (or something) by her caiques: kanez.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=OP&action=display&thread=1762

So my bad, I forgot; I"m sorry. Maybe I forgot because...oh jee...no one comes here but four or so people.
Once we get people coming maybe then you can explain why you do what you do with your pets and the same goes for everyone here. Nobody on this forum has been explaining because no one is there to ask and we all know each other and what we mean. Once we get people, we can explain again.

I do not know who comes to this board and does not join. We have loads of guests every day.
And a little less defensiveness would go a long way - that has gone on off and on for years. I've never put you down and never will, and you should know that.
Enough on that.
Looked at birds for adoption on Petfinder. Some really high adoption fees (same as the cost of a Quaker, for example) and serious reference checks, and home visits in some cases! No bargains there. I was curious as the really big empty cage in the living room I need to do something with.
That cage allows my thumb between the bars with a millimeter or two of wiggle room. Big enough for a conure to stick its head through? A Senegalese? Not sure. But I have to figure out what to do with the cage: use it, sell it, trade it for a smaller cage (for such as a lovebird), or give it away to a rescue group. I looked for caiques for adoption but there were none in NY. We shall see. . .

Ok, ok, children, play nicely. . .
Feedback from an objective third party here:
Katie, it was in fact appropriate for Tom to describe why he had wings clipped, even though he probably knew that you knew what the purpose was. As he said, this is a public board, and we are in the business of dissemination of information every time we post. We should always be thinking of how others could use what we say.
That being said, Tom, Katie called you on your sarcasm, and I will agree with her there. The undertone of your statement was too much like "Foolish girl, you should know that by now!" Not necessary, and yes, a mild putdown. You also poked fun at her by defining the word she used in error, and she may not have found that funny since it was just an error--she used the right word earlier.
She's not being defensive--she's standing up for herself!
We're all equal: knowledgeable in some ways and not in others. Let's not forget that.
But to the point of this thread: birds and cages. Time will show you what to do with that cage. Keep watching Petfinder--things can change in a hurry. I am connected to two bunny rescues through my hamster adoptions, and it's amazing how the number of adoptables can escalate when there's been a raid on the home of a hoarder or there's an overflow situation at a local shelter. I know birds are not bunnies, but there may be the right winged creature out there soon, just not right now. :-)

>>she's standing up for herself!<< Unfortunately, no one is attacking her, nor ever has.
Finding a suitable bird for that cage for that cage may be hard indeed. First, the bar space allows just a tiny bit of wiggle room for my thumb's first joint, a few extra mm's. It is too big for a cockatiel or even a Quaker. I am not sure about a conure or caique. But part of the problem is those birds are very costly, and even when they can be found on Petfinder and such the adoption fee is almost as high as if I bought the bird, plus there is a big reference check and home visits, etc.
And - and this is a big question - an adopted bird may have bonded to a specific human, unlike a pet store bird, this making my problems more difficult in taming. True?
I will keep the big cage for some time and keep looking into this. It does seem ideal for cockatoos. But as Robin said, something may open up. If not, I can try to sell it or trade it for a smaller cage for another love bird or such. I will eventually need some grate and/or pan for the bottom which is missing.
Whew. Been busy as hell. Dead tired but keyed up. My Dog Show notes are already posted. Photos later today. *yawns*

Sorry Robin. Unfortunately, no one is attacking her ^You were highly sarcastic, which I do not care for. You can't tell by your tone of voice or the way you said your statement, that it was rude? All I ever ask is for an apology and I have never been given one despite me apologizing to you multiple times even if I misunderstood. You do deserve to know what happened on FB and I will pm you later on why I have made that kind of decision. That is all.
