Got four new young small rats. I sadly lost some rats a month or so ago in the sudden mite attack.
Black hooded; one all white. Three guys, and one female (hooded) who will join Mabel, the adult who is the only one left.
I am looking at them now in a tank. Very cute; one likes to sleep in the food bowl to the annoyance of the others.
The female, unfortunately, is very timid having been taken away suddenly from her siblings. She will meet Mabel after a short QUARANTINE period, for safety.
The guys are too small to go into the cage as they would squeeze out. Have to wait.
Always QUARANTINE.
Of course they all have wooden houses and stuff.

I didn't realize that you have a Mabel and I have a Mable! :-) In my case the spelling was the rescue's choice, and I never change the names of the rescued, so she has an unconventional spelling. I actually go back and forth between calling her "May-bul" and "Mah-blay" (pretending that there is an accent on that e!). She responds to both.
Anyway, congrats on the rattie kids. Hope mites don't revisit. Ugh. Have never had to deal with them here, thankfully.

Isn't the pronounced, "MA ble"? As in French? The only name I ever changed was Poppy's, and that only from "Poopy". No mites so far. The young female is the most timid rat I ever had. She hides and hides. She will meet Mabel soon, who is in a 20 gallon. They have to grow enough so they cannot squeeze out of the cage. Same with the three guys who are more confident (not being alone). I am looking at them now lying on top of their wooden boxes in their tank.

They all seem fine. The young female, who was separated from her three male siblings, is very timid. The guys I watch wrestling; it is quite amusing. They will all be moved to bigger quarters soon.

Later today I meant to introduce the timid new young girl to Mabel, after the quarantine. An hour ago I found the former dead. Young rats dying is an ongoing problem - why I still look for a real breeder. *shakes head*

Got a young female today to replace the one lost (see above). Only one rat was in the store which was good. Will intro her to Mabel soon.
Talked to the pet store people about all my concerns.

The three guys are getting bigger and will move to a cage soon. Right now they are wrestling LIKE CRAZY! Maybe feeding them a little will calm them down. I know, they need more space. Soon.

See above post.
Moved them to a big cage today, one suitable for a GP. Had to wait until they got too big to fit through the bars!

I see them now. . . lots more room and stuff to explore. They seem happy, and they still wrestle!

Cute to see them running in their wheel and relaxing stretched out on top of things as it is warm. A yard to my right. BTW, have not seen a mite in weeks!

Two new girls, much smaller than Mabel, are not harmed by her, although she does like to get on top of them - dominance I suppose. They squeak. But no one is harmed. Cute. The guys are still wrestling, but there it is even as they're the same size.
