After many months if not years of Heather the cockatiel flying over to Tana's tank and walking and pecking at the mesh top several minutes ago I let them get together. I opened up the top and after a bit Heather dropped in! Tana the yellow parakeet has deformed feet; she is a rescue. That is why she is in a tank. Her white sister, Breena, died some time ago. I consulted some bird experts and they said let them meet; it is likely OK. Just supervise. It is not especially unusual for a 'tiel and a 'keet to get along. I will take photos in due course. They seem happy enough right at this moment. No hostility. Maybe they are happy. Maybe not. But I am watching. Now Tana is climbing up the back of Heather--aggression? Maybe a dominance thing. We shall see.

Well, they were together for well over six hours, and all was peaceful. I think Heather wanted to fly off home, so I let her out. All went well They will meet again! Heather right now is sleeping on top of Tana's tank.

They are now in Heather's big cockatoo cage! Tana is able to perch to some degree, and they are getting along fine! I will need to make some food alterations, but this may work out!

Very nice, now they are friends. I wish Kiwi and Mango, at Paws, could be friends, but they fight if they're together. Maybe they could learn a few things from Heather and Tana.

I will have to keep the bottom cleaner than normal as Tana may find perching difficult with her bad feet, and may wish to walk around and rest. But the two of them get along!

They are perching together. See the photo. There was a small squabble last night when they both went for the same millet spray. But they have two feeding dishes and they will quickly learn which is which--I will always put Heather's stuff in one place and same with Tana. As you can see, Tana CAN perch to some degree. Spray her sister, the white Breena, passed away (in my Memorial Gallery in my sig).

After they work out the food situation, the only problem left is allowing them flight. Heather I know is OK with that; I am not sure about Tana, nor getting her back in. Heather occasionally goes in to hang out and get water. Maybe Tana will get that idea, too.
