Or Havoc, if puberty brings out a pair of jingle bells (not absolutely 100% certain of anything since Cassandra became Casper). Little girl is doing well, running all night on her wheel, avoiding any human contact but snuggling up when I do pick her up. I don't know whether she's snuggling or cowering, so it's still a little uncertain. She has not relieved herself on me yet -- I consider that a good sign. She's a little ball of energy, once she's moving at night. When she wakes, she's in a stupor for several minutes, then she's very alert.

Who could resist such a face?
My guy's usually in a bit of a stupor as well when he first wakes up. Tends to be very surly about hands entering the premises during this time....

Nice. One of these days I will try to catch mine as they wake and hope for a big yawn! It'd make a great photo.

This evening, she was very feisty -- very nippy, I'm glad the glove is strong canvas.
She just wanted to run and jump all over me -- I just got my face back far enough when she went to take a taste of my nose. That would have made an interesting tale to tell at the store tomorrow.
After that, she went back in her cage -- with a little chunk of brocolli -- hope it wasn't too much to give her a floret -- it was the size of my thumptip.
I wonder what was done to her at the shop to make her as hateful as she is...

So I guess this is the little one that you were talking about earlier when I put out the SOS for Hammy sites. She is a pretty little thing. Sounds like you have quite a project ahead of you to tame her, I wish you the best. Keep us informed Michele

Yes, she's my little rehab project -- she's got my heart between her teeth.
I think she was hurt, neglected, or mishandled at the pet shop -- no surprise there -- and has a deep abiding mistrust of people. In fact, she seems to hate everyone -- hopefully, time will teach her that people don't all cause hurt, and that it's okay to let yourself be loved.

You've seen Maggie when I rescued her - badly biten, terrified, and screaming. Within 36 of peace and quiet she had calmed, and a day later I could gently handle her, although she was nervous and jumpy. Within a few more days she was fine. Maggie has been one of the calmest hams I have in her CT2 (originally Princess' CT2, which I had to move prince out of as he was going nuts chewing the bars).
So, hopefully, despite the mistreatment, yours will also respond to better surroundings. Animals (and people) do with time, although there was once this older chimp who had been mistreated for years in a circus. He and some others were put on a small island habitat as he never again would accept people.

After adopting Astrid, the bunny who was most definately abused, i am amazed how forgiving of people animals can be. Astrid and i have bonded instantly. As i did with my dwarf hammy Poppy who was unable to be loved by her previous owner.
kudos to you james for taking the time and having the patience to love her.
she is beautiful by the way, but you already know cause she's your baby girl

*beams happily, then returns to licking latest wounds from misunderstood hamster*
She'll be a much calmer girl, someday.
