Well, I cleaned the boys habitats and put the little one in my room. I waited until he was running in his wheel, then put the ball in his cage and let him crawl into it, closed it up and put it on it's stand. (I like the stand because I can keep my eye on him while I'm cleaning) He seemed to enjoy it, so that's good. Makes my cleaning sessions easier.
I put Darko back into his normal cage. I've always felt it to be a bit small, but he's happy as a clam. Once I fix NP's old one I'll put him in there.
Off Topic: Can Crittertrail and Habitrails connect? I have Megs' old Habitrail cage, and I got the Crittertrail Revolutions thing (on sale for $30 instead of $80 because the lower door broke and had to be wired shut) and I wanted to put them together. (Can I put dwarfs in there? Some people say syrians only, others say dwarfs only) I have many plans for the future of those cages...

>> Can Crittertrail and Habitrails connect? <<
I never cold get mine to, but you can try with yours. Be resourceful. Give me more specifics if you can.
>> Crittertrail Revolutions <<
Dwarfs? Don't know. I never had that type of habitat. Why couldn't dwarfs go in a cage Syrians can go into??
Dwarfs in habitats with many tubes: they do pee and poo in the tubes, not in corners as Syrians do. That can get messy--why I moved dwarfs out (when I had them). That is my only comment of Syrians vs dwarfs in habitats.
When I cleaned I would put a Syrian in a bookcase and watch her do gymnastics climbing about. Now, I just put them in a small critter carrier.

I was reading up on the Revolutions, and many people were saying that the tubes are too small for Syrians. I thought that as long as they could get their heads through it would be fine. I'm kind of nervous about the fact that it's got a revolving wire exterior, I was thinking I should put some cardboard over the wire so that their feet don't fall through.

I have no idea about this without photos. Maybe Kate has one of those and knows. Most Syrians have no trouble squeezing like a sausage up the vertical tube of a CT2; I have seen it. But they vary in size. Yes, dwarfs can go up one of those also; I have seen it. It is no good for babies, but don't breed, of course.

I'm 95% sure that CT's and Habitrails connect. You can always check by going to the pet store and looking at the CT cages, it tells what you can connect with it.

Speaking of wheels, I have given up totally on Silent Spinner wheels for anything bigger than a spiny mouse--one type of critter almond does not have! ;D The things just break too often at the yellow hub. Even gerbils have cracked it. BTW, Andrea a few weeks ago posted (easy to find; click on her name for recent posts) that it is a myth that hay can cause problems for hamsters who pouch it. I still worry. I worry about cheek pouch infections; I once had a ham with one.

>>I have no idea about this without photos.<< I plan on posting some, but I haven't had much free time lately. (I'm sure you know what that's like) >>I'm 95% sure that CT's and Habitrails connect.<< I tried to connect the Habitrail tube to the CT tube on the side of the Revolutions, and they fit but they didn't lock together. Since they overlap I think the matter could be solved with duct tape, but I'm going to do more research and try some things before resorting to that. >>CT Revolutions are rubbish. They're just one big wheel with a hidey in the middle.<< I wouldn't be using that as the main cage. I was given these cages kanez.proboards22.com/index.cgi?board=Hab1&action=display&thread=1806 (and a few others, without the bin the habitrail is on) and was planning on connecting the Habitrail to the Revolutions. As for the taming of noname and the further taming of Darko, it's been pretty nonexistent. I've been dog training and that's taking priority. (Only because I don't like cleaning feces off my floor, but that's a rant for another thread) I'm still looking after them, they've always got foods and fresh water! I just haven't had the chance to spend as much time with them as I'd like.

>> I haven't had much free time lately. (I'm sure you know what that's like) << Oh wow. Between dealing the backyard cats (See Animal Rescues), today's events (See This Day in History), and so much more, I am behind in everything. It is a busy time generally as all the flowering trees are in bloom and I every year visit all,the botanic gardens and the landmark cemeteries (which have as many lovely trees as the gardens). Many photos to take; many to later process. And post! Back when I can.

Oh yea. . . before I go. . . I thought about the duct tape for non-locking (what I meant) CT and Habitrail tubes.
The CT Revolution certainly is best only as an auxiliary unit.
>> I just haven't had the chance to spend as much time with them as I'd like. <<
That is true with many critters here. But I try, and keep them safe.
Best with your dog training. Keep them confined (in a small room or corner of a room, not a cage) until they get the idea.

Hamsters do not really NEED human contact, so it hardly matters that much to them. I would like to play with them more, though. (Most of these rescued animals would otherwise be dead by now, and I don't just mean the rats).

I'm sorry to disagree and I know you all have so much more animals than I, but I think hamsters like being held. Every night my hamster goes to his door wanting to be taken out cause he knows he loves to be with me.
Just like with dogs, I think hamsters love to be with their owner.

>>I think hamsters like being held<< I agree with you. Darko LOVES being taken out and let run about on me. Maybe he doesn't NEED to be held, but he definitely enjoys it.

>>I think that hamsters like to come out and play and explore, but I doubt they literally like being handled.<< Don't the two go hand in hand? Unless you put them in a ball...
