You can put them in a play area using a tube and leave them alone. Don't have to touch them that way.

>>You can put them in a play area using a tube and leave them alone.<< Hmm... I guess you would have to have a secure play area. I was thinking of using the combined Habitrail and Crittertrail cages together as a play cage, but I don't really know how that would work. Unless I completely cleaned it every time I let one in it...

Or a play cage, yes, or different bin. Add new scents now and then and different things, and let them sniff and explore! But never forget they can climb all too well!

I have made a play thing for Yuiko completly made of CT tubes. You won't need to clean the tubes after each time.

>>You won't need to clean the tubes after each time.<< But won't the boys smell each other? I thought that was a bad thing for syrians...

Updates:
Well, the nameless one is used to my hand being in the cage now. Yesterday I cleaned both boy's cages, and he sat on my hand and ate a piece of cauliflower stalk! He's still really timid and won't let me pick him up, but he is getting comfortable with my smell. I haven't had much time for playing with him with the dog training, but I was really happy. I gotta decide on a name for him one of these days... <3 He's getting big! I'll update pictures when I have time.

When I got my first hamster I was a total noob and tried to tame it by grabbing it, but know I know better, infact my hamster comes to the door wanting out when it sees me. I tamed Bucca by giving her a treat with my hand flat out, and the bath tub worked great to.

The only dumb thing I did long long ago was grab Zeb, famous around here, with one hand which pinned all four of his legs. he did not like it and I got a deserved bite! The bloody results were posted years ago! Zeb was a favorite. He is in the memorial gallery in my sig.

>>Get him a name!<< I FINALLY CAME UP WITH A NAME! His name is "Meeks". It still fits in with my "characters from favourite movies" theme that I have for my hams, as one of my favourite movies is Dead Poets Society. It's also fitting because he's really shy and timid.
>>The bloody results were posted years ago!<< I saw those... that was pretty bad.

But oddly it did not hurt much; a one drop gerbil bite hurt a lot more as she clamped down hard and squeezed tight and held it. Zeb's was in and out fast (but deep).
Wasn't Robin Williams in "Dead Poet's Society"? He had long before become too cloying to me, so I skipped it.
Glad you got him a name though.

Yes, Robin Williams was in that movie. It was my English teacher's favourite movie as well, and we watched it in class after doing the modernism poetry unit. At the end of the year, we stood on our desks and said "O Captain, my Captain". He was almost in tears. (watch the movie and you will get the significance of that)
I've been bitten a few times by animals. Goes with the territory, I guess...

A little Walt Whitman.
If I see it on TV I will watch it. But by then I had had it with RW's "sweetness and light" characters--why perhaps he has done psycho killers more lately such as in "Insomnia" and a recent "Law and Order".
Bites are in fact very rare, if you know what you are doing. The relatively few bites I got mostly came when I was not 100% exact in my handling procedures.

I don't like RW at all but the movie is still amazing.
The bites I have had were from animals that had been mishandled and had serious dominance issues. I've also had a few that were purely my fault.
I'm teaching my 11 yr old brother how to handle my animals. (as opposed to living with them in the house) He's getting really good with the dogs, and this morning I taught him how to let Darko take a treat from his hand.
Meeks is getting a lot better as well. He's still very timid and will run and hide if I move too fast, but he lets me touch his back and will eat out of my hand. I'm glad to see him start trusting me.
