Meeks--always great when a timid animal starts to trust you!
I once was amazed when a friend, an animal expert, could trim a rescued dwarf's very long nails. But then I learned how to, and to avoid nips. gotta have a nice tight dead center scruff.

>>Meeks--always great when a timid animal starts to trust you!<< I know... it makes me feel like I've accomplished something.
How did you manage the nail cutting? That sounds like quite the feat...

Very tight dead center scruff held firmly (tricky to do; takes practice), and then pressing the dwarf against something while holding the paw down with the other thumb while clipping with the clipper in my palm (right hand). The nails looked like a Chinese mandarin by the time I got them.

Wow... that sounds difficult. I'll leave that one to the experts!

There was a typo above. It now says ". . . HELD firmly. . .".
It was not as hard as I expected once I mastered the scruff--that took practice: we do not want to injure the dwarf or let it be too loose or they will nip.

BREAKTHROUGH!!!!!!! Meeks let me pick him up with my hands! He was sitting on the little log in his house, and I was petting his back and his sides and he didn't have a problem, and then I just scooped him up and he sat on my hands for like three seconds, then hopped off! It was like I'd been doing it his entire life and it was absolutely nothing for him. I must say, that put a smile on my face!

Great! I had my own breakthrough just now: the last rescued kitten who was kind of wild now is in my lap at this instant and is all over me, and friendly as could be! Socialized!
