Wow that is so cool that you've seen one. Arco is a pretty cool name; Wetterhouns are pretty too. Of course you've seen them, I've only seen them in books. You're so lucky! So since the Drentse Patrijshond is common to you, ladyjosephine, what dogs are rare for you?

@df: that poodle is very pretty! and the great Dane...Both dogs I would love to have when I have the space for them. @h82: Well, I'm not that into wettenhouns, some of them are nice&sweet but most of them are, in my opinion, very annoying. I know one that's very sweet, we had her for a few days but my dad gave her away to a friend of us. Well..about rare dogs in holland, but only the ones I like: The kangal...I think they are pretty rare on your side of the ocean too, but It's one of my favorite dogs. The clumber Spaniel, Only have seen one. Last week I thought I saw another one but when I saw it's head I saw it was a Spinone-mix. I love this breed, I would like to have one when Queeny is over the bridge. The SaarloosWolfshond is a dutch breed, but very rare. A girl from a dutch rat forum has one, very pretty to look at, but difficult to socialize. The BasenjiAfrican Rat-killers that's how some people call them. The act more like cats than dogs, they can't bark, they howl. And last but not least..never seen a real one.. Spinone Italiano I love those dogs, they have such a strange apearrance.. Here's a list of dogs in holland I see every single day, and allot of them too: Labrador Retriever(like them, but wouldn't want one) Golden Retriever(Don't like them, they are dangerous(sounds weird, huh?)Seems to me almost every dutch family has one) Jack Russell terrier(Very common, when we first got Nikita we were the first with a Jack Russell in our city, now everywhere you look you see them) Friese Stabij/Wettenhoun(Duh!) Rotweiler(Macho-dog, for men with a big ego and a small...well you could guess...) German shepherd Yorkshire terrier(Old lady dogs )

Wow for a second there the Kangal looked a bit like the Anatolian. They're neat dogs, all of them you chose. And really the Golden is mean? Over here they're the sweetest. The wolfdogs are cool. Ever see a Czech Wolfdog? They almost look the same and ah the barkless dog. content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en-commons/thumb/6/60/250px-Czechoslovakian_Wolfdog.jpgLol-not a Wetthoun fan that much anymore. Lol-I like what you said on the Yorkies. The same goes with all small dogs, it's funny to see men walk them, you know. ;D

Looks like we have TWO rare dog experts here! Very interesting stuff. Thanks. >> Golden Retriever(Don't like them, they are dangerous(sounds weird, huh?) << Yes. >> Rotweiler(Macho-dog, for men with a big ego and a small...well you could guess...) German shepherd << Whoa! Jack Russells seem awfully hyper to me. Someone in this apartment house has a basenji. Said they were hard to train, and are not friendly to strangers!

When a man walks with a dog such as a Yorkie they try to make themselves as small as possible, As if you don't see them walking a rat on a leash:p

I honestly would not care what people think of me. But some dogs I would walk only as favors to their owners; I'd never have them.
Little dogs are OK (smaller than Yorkies) so long as they are not yappy and annoying and have an attitude. Too many do.

I don't really have a problem with any dog, I would walk with every dog. I love dogs with an attitude, I know I have one so why can't the dog have one.. Queeny has a big Ego and attitude, loves to annoy me and every one within a 500 m radius including other dogs. For some people that's only annoying, to me it's funny and in a weird way very sweet. But when I tell her something she has to do, she does is so she is paying attention to what I want her to do. The only time I have a problem with dogs is when they aren't well trained by there owner...I hate it when a dog is yanking you down the street and doesn't listen to a word that's said. If I say Sit! I expect a dog to listen, not that he's trying to pull my arm of My aunt has a dog like that, really sweet dog, Mix Between a German Weimaraner and a Dane Called Scooby. This is him, Beauty isn't it? I had to watch him when they where on a holiday to Hongary, I was glad they came back my arm was getting numb from all the walks we made.

Wonderful photo. It looks like he is about to run off happily into the grass, or whatever that is.

Ooh, that's what he did I have pictures of that. It's a field of Wheats And Patatoes BTW About the Golden retriever-Dangerous thing.. Did you now there are more people being attacked by Golden retrievers then by let's say A StaffordShire Terrier or a Rottweiler or A dobermann? You don't hear allot about it because the Golden retriever has a name for being a good family pet and things like that, and when a Rottweiler attacks everybody goes: Well, I told you so... I'd rather have a Rottweiler as pet than a Golden retriever, When a Rottweiler is angry he'll let you know, but when a golden retriever is angry he doesn't growl he just attacks. It's usually the 'white' golden retriever who snaps, about the original color you don't hear it(allot).

Scooby looks like he just found a bird or something as he's pointing. A nice dog indeed and I, too, hate it when dogs don't listen cause the owner hasn't trained them properly. I once told my co-worker that my favorite common dog is the Golden and she said they're breeding them too much and that's why they have traits like being mean. If a Golden is mean though, that's not proper and something went wrong. I know your experiences are different than mine, LJ (hope you don't mind me shortening your screen name), but I'd rather have a Golden than a Dobie near me. I once had a Husky turn on me for no apparent reason. Talk about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide. But I knew not all Huskies were like that, just like Dobies can be sweet as well. And to end on a happy note, yes I love it when dogs give you attention and lick you and want to be with you. It's not annoying at all, like you said. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WDS is on this week and to keep with it, I chose my favorite out of the four that are new to it. The Swedish Valhund! He is from Sweden (obviously) and he's alert, eager to learn, and affectionate. I know him more as the Vastgotaspets. Enjoy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_Vallhund

>> There are more people being attacked by Golden retrievers then by let's say A StaffordShire Terrier << Per capita? I mean, as a percentage? Of course there are a lot more GR's as pets here than ST's. Speaking of weirdness, remember that French woman who had her face torn off by her dog (and now has a new transplanted face)? The dog who did it was. . . a lab! Love the photos.

Nice dogs can turn on someone one day for no reason; it's like saying all PB's are bad which they aren't. Btw, another name for the PB is an American Staffordshire Terrier.

I did not know they were totally synonymous.

ladyJ--I hope you feel I'm not arguing with you. It's fun to talk about rare breeds or just any dog in particular. And yes, either it's the AmStaff (pretty sure) or the Staff Terrier that's another name for the PB.

Aahh! Vastgotaspets!! I Love them, they are so sweet, hyperactive and funny.. One of my teacher has two of them, A big male(8) and a female(2). When we had to go to his class his dogs where always walking around, going trough your bag trying to find something they could play with or eat BTW, Over here PB are considered Dangerous and you can't breed or have them because of the Pitbull-law Or RAD..I don't know how to explain this, I'll come back on it later.. But You can have American Staffordshire Terriers, they are considered a Different breed
