Love what you've done with the place and I wish I had that kind of room for the boys. They'd be so happy!

There's been the Robos on CL so much lately... I'm considering taking in that hammy with Lock-Paw but I'm getting a new foster this weekend from another volunteer. I cant wait to see your hammy/gerbil!

My two little meecers have crossed the bridge. Two nights ago Glad (my new male mouse) passed away. I've looked him over and he seems okay... just not in this world. Whatever the reason, it was his time.
Spyder hadn't been getting any better. The tumour on her face was growing and her body was getting bloated and hard. She'd started to not control her bladder and was peeing/pooping red... I made the appointment for her to be pts so she crossed the bridge yesterday afternoon. I'm content knowing they didn't suffer.
So RIP my two sweet mice. You'll be missed.

Unless Sam is short for Samantha and they're both female?

Ugh, I found an ad on kijiji for "Campelli dwarf hamsters also called chinese hampster" I sent them a not-so-nice email saying that if they've been "Breeding for 15 yrs" as they claim, they'd know the difference between the species. I REALLY miss having hamsters. Ah well, I'll wait until we get some in that need a foster home.

You can't cross a teddy bear with anything 'cuz they're all syrian hamsters! That looks like a gerbil to me as well.

Do you have a large freezer? Freeze their food/bedding for (I think it's 36-48hrs but I'm not 100% sure) as it will kill any mites that will have gotten in there. If your freezer isn't large enough for a full bag, you can get plastic freezer bags and freeze small amounts at a time. I know it's time consuming, but it does work!

I did, that's hilarious. My friend's hamster escaped and she found him halfway up the inside of her old bird cage.

Hrm, apparently it's also called "galvanized wire mesh"? It comes in sizes/thicknesses from a window screen to fencing. It's often used in construction to stop rats and mice from getting into pipes. Google's got a ton of articles on it and it's super cheap at the hardware store. I used the steel as the rats can't chew through it. (they tried)

I read this at work last night on my break and burst into tears. He and Poppy and all others who've crossed the bridge are frolicking and munching on treats together. As I told you, if there's anything I can do just let me know.

I've had to do that to cages using hardware cloth. Gotta love how inventive we got for our critters.

I haven't decided on new names for them. I've already had the LotR hamsters (so Sam & Frodo are already taken by hams) but I haven't thought of new ones for them yet. Boston & Donnelly (their original names) don't really seem to fit them... will try to think up something. (My ex-bf turned good friend has the elven script from the One Ring tattooed around his upper bicep. It's a big joke that if he starts going crazy someone has to chop his arm off and throw it in Mordor.)
Frodo looks possessed in every picture I take of him... he gives the camera the evil eye! (and my cell phone doesn't do eyes very well) He's got such pretty brown eyes, too.
They've decided they no longer like their hay (I'm still using the flake I got from their foster) so I stopped at a local feed store and picked up sample bags of every Timothy hay I could find; they're not touching it. All they want is their veggie salad and their Martin's. I've tried putting it in their litter box, putting it in their hay rack, they've got some in their hay-ball toy and I stuffed a toilet paper tube full of it (they've shredded the tube and pushed the hay through the bars of the pen). Any suggestions?
