I have the same thing, at the moment my boys have really sharp nails and some of them really draw their nails in my skin. After a few minutes my skin is red and swollen and really itchy.
But I don't know if it comes from their pee. I'm going to ask this question on a Dutch rat forum, maybe they now where the itch comes from.

My rats have Hemperade-litter, Corbo in as toilet-litter. I give them peaces of fleece to make there nest out of. But they really love the Hammocks I made for them, there's also an igloo at the bottom of the cage where 2 of the guys are always in. they push the Hemperade out of the igloo and the fleece sometimes too so they lay on the bottom of the cage.
I think it doesn't matter, if they think it's comfy they will sleep everywhere. One of my guys thinks sleeping over the edge of a Plateau is comfortable(his backside is always hanging over the edge, from his waist down).

For everything ;D, Terrorist attacks, floods, big fires etc. The alarm isn't on 1 big 'network', every city can put on his own alarm. So if half Steenwijk burns down only our alarm will go off. But when a disaster strikes the whole country the alarm will go off everywhere. When you hear the alarm, you need to go inside, close all windows&doors en put on the TV or the Radio.

Oh, please correct me if I say something wrong! The only way you can learn a language the right way is by trying and being corrected if you're wrong.
Well about the Terrorism; I know, when we will be attacked(I don't even doubt we will, I think eventually we will be attacked..sooner or later) people will be much more carefull, and then the government will finally take serious messieurs(That's the word, right?)... For example: We have an alarm across the whole country, every first Monday of the month around 12.00 that thing go's of everywhere. But this sunday they did a test in Helmond to see if people respond when It go's of....Almost everyone stayed outside to enjoy the sun, only a few people went inside, closed windows&doors and listen to the radio to see what was going on. So you see, they don't take it serious enough.
I'll make some photo's of all of the animals later this week, when I have the time for it. I have a very busy week, so i don't really have time to make photo's.

I was at the museum the whole 7 hours. You don't really have breaks because you don't know when the museum-guests are coming. We always have a cd with birdsounds in the radio, because it's a museum with all kinds of birds(Non of them are alive BTW). There are dutch people who are really paranoid about terrorism, But I don't really am concerned about it. If they will drop a bomb or something it wouldn't be in the part where I live. And You'll never know when they will, en how they will attack you. The Government is doing allot of research, and when they suspect someone they will come in action. But I think every country is either overdoing it, or they don't do enough about it. I think we are doing a lousy job. But Balkenende(Our prime-minister....or at least, he was the last time I checked...our government is falling apart every time so I don't really care who is the Prime-minister) Is not really good at the thing he should do...and the ministers are only thinking about humiliating each other in public. They're like a bunch of teenagers, always trying to bring each other down. Well today was another hot day for us, my hamsters&Rats are doing as little as they can. Noor is on her back, and her baby's are all lying on top of her. The rats just got a few we towels in there cage where they can lay on. My animal-collection is getting bigger, there where a bunch of very cute mice at school..I had to take 2 of them with me 1 of them is a Siamese Rex and the other one is, i believe, a Burmese. Both are girls, maybe 1 or 2 of there little sisters will come home with me in about 4 weeks. They made there first, and only, train trip. And a ride in the car of my best friend. Now there living in an old fishtank, Tomorrow I will put some toys in there, they only have an wooden tube and a little igloo at the moment.

Yes the man who killed Theo Van Gogh was a Moroccan Muslim, His name is Mohammed Bouyeri. Theo Van Gogh did all sorts of things, He was a movie-director and he also did write a few movie-scripts himself. There's not really a concern about the Muslims. There is a concern about the big number of refugees that come into our country, and they don't leave when there country is save. I think I know what you mean. You can be flexible, If I suddenly change my mind about working with animals I can switch to another kind of education. I think the way kids behave in the classroom has allot to do with the teacher. I always have classmates who are very loud and know-it-alls so they don't really listen and when the teacher let them do it there own way the class is one big mess and they're not working like they should. The kids depend on there classmates to much, but when they have to get a job they can't depend on each other so I think it's a stupid way to behave. I didn't get to learn Greek&Latin, but when I get the change.... I really want to learn Greek,Latin&Hebrew. I know a bit of hebrew, a few word greek and some latin word. But the latin words are names of fish or animals, and the simple words like Pax etc. I'll make a list of the way to pronounce 'dutch' letters tomorrow. But we don't have the silly letters like 'ß' We call that thing in dutch: De ringel S, How do you call ß ? Today was the hottest dutch april day since 1967. It was 27 degrees Celsius. Yesterday is was also very hot, but I had to work. I was really annoyed, because it was my first day since the season-break that I worked at the Museum and they changed allot but they didn't tell me so I came in, and there where all kinds of souvenirs and we suddenly sell Coffee,Tea, Cola etc. And we always work alone in the museum, so there was no one to talk to. I only got 6 people, so it was really boring. The museum is open from 9.45 - 17.00

I know the name of our new little princess!! I think it's a really cute and beautiful name... here it comes: Ariane Wilhelmina Máxima Ines She will be called Ariane. Wilhelmina&Máxima are names of both of the Grandmothers. and Ines is the name of Maxima's youngest sister. Funkelhagelneu, I know the dutch word for it : Spiksplinter nieuw I think the English translation is Brand new, or something like that. And you got both got what I Meant by the dutch 'shut' there words. Well back to the Dutch lessons I just got home from working at the stables, there was a girl who just bought a Standard Poodle last week. I was in love!! The boss of the stables has 9 poodles, 1 toy and 8 Dwarfs in Apricot and Black so every Thursday&Friday I walk around with one of the poodles in my arms . Here are some words in Dutch: Thursday = Donderdag(De G will be hard, because we say it like it's stuck in our troth) Friday = Vrijdag Poodle = Poedel(You almost say it the same, but again don't stretch the OO) Apricot = Abrikoos(Your A sounds like a dutch E. try to say Ah, Not Eej) Black = Zwart In love = Verliefd(This is a difficult one, I don't think one of you will pronounce it right) I love you = Ik hou van jou I think Girl is a bit to hard but in dutch it's : Meisje. Well about school, Our system is very different from yours. Children can go to kindergarten(= also a German word ) at age 4, at the age of five they must go to school(Compulsory education, i think you call it) They will go to Elementary school. There's allot of difference between the Elementary schools, we have Catholic,Protestant,Jewish,Muslim& Public schools. At age 5 you'll start in the 1st grade(kleuterschool = Nursery). here you learn a bit about talking right and proper, counting and that sort of things. At Elementary school you will stay until you are 11/12 years old, that's how old you are in the 8th grade(We call the grades groep = Group). In groep 8 you'll have to do a test, We call it the Cito-toets. Based on your school-history and the score you got on the test they will recommend what type of secondary education you should follow. After this you'll go to High school, depending on the advice of the elementary school and the score of the CITO test, you are assigned to either VMBO, HAVO, VWO or Gymnasium.(I did 1½ year VMBO/HAVO, ½ year VWO..And than i had to drop out of high school because of personal problems) The first 2 years at High school we call the brugklas(The translation literally is:Bridge class) in this years you will learn to cope with differences such as no longer spending all day in the same classroom, and dealing with an increased personal responsibility. This is what you learn at the different 'stages': VMBO = It combines vocational training with theoretical education in languages, mathematics, history, arts and sciences. This type of education lasts 4 years(age 12-16) HAVO = (Age 12-17) in the first 3 years you'll learn: languages, mathematics, history, arts and sciences. In the 3th year you have to choose one of 4 profiles(culture and society/economy and society/nature and health/nature and technology) When they have chosen which profile they want to attend to they get all a different type of education. VWO = (age 12-18) It shares the profiles system described above with the HAVO route. The distinctions that can be made are that the difficulty level is significantly higher. A VWO diploma provides access to WO training, although universities may set their own admittance criteria. Gymnasium = A Gymnasium programme is similar to the VWO, except that Latin and Greek are typically compulsory until the third year. Latin may start in either the first or the second year, while Greek may start in second or third. I didn't get my high school diploma, although I wished I would. But I just couldn't go to school at that time. I'm now doing MBO, this is a form of education that comes after High school. MBO stands for: middle-level vocational education(Middelbaar Beroeps onderwijs). I'm doing 'Animal friends', Here you learn everything about animals. It lasts 4 years, I'm almost ready with the 2th year. After this 4 years I'm planning to do HBO(higher professional education) When I'm done I could be A Vet. I can work at a Zoo I could even start my own if I had the place and the money for it I hope you can make something out of all this, I'm going to get a shower because I smell like horse, And my face is really dirty, I look like I got stuck in a Sandstorm ;D.

Yes it's true Brooklyn comes from the word Breukelen, Breukelen is a dutch city. Utrecht is a City & A province.I think the German song is a piece of cake, but there are words in it that are hard to a dutch person who can't speak German. English like dogs barking!? Well then they have never heard a dog barking Here in The Netherlands we call the husband of the ruling queen Prins-gemaal. Claus(The husband of Beatrix) was called that way, You call it a Prince-Consort I think. But it's really strange, because when Prince willem-Alexander becomes the King, his wife Maxima will become the Queen. But Clause could never have been the King, because if the Man is Dutch royal he always stands higher but when the Man isn't a dutch royal he can't be a king because that will make him more important than his dutch wife. Maxima will become The queen, however when The prince of wales(England) becomes the sovereign his wife, Camilla, Won't be queen. She will be the Princess Consort, Because she was divorced before she married Charles and the Church isn't really in to that . Also, a big part of the British Population won't have her as queen because they still see Princess Di as the woman who should have been the Queen.

'The kooikerdog': Yes I know the breed, they're really fun looking and when they play they're acting all crazy. It's a dog where I could share my home with. 'funfundfunfzig': 55, I think...I'm not a real language-nerd. Give me the english, roman, dutch or whatever sort of History and I could tell you a lot about it, but I always hated to learn languages. I only liked learning English because it's a beautiful language, Germans talk to loud and they always sound angry. except when they're saying 'Ich liebe dich', well that's no surprise because when they say that with the normal angry-voice there wouldn't be much germans left at the end . Oh by the way; 55 in dutch: Vijfenvijftig. 'The orange house': It's called that way because our royal families last name is Oranje; Oranje = Orange in dutch Did you hear we have a new Little Princess? Princess Maxima has given birth to another daughter. They already had 2 girls: Amelia(Next in line for the Crown after Willem-Alexander)&Alexia. I hope they give the new princess also a name with the A, Me and my 3 sisters all have an 'A'-name. In line Oldest-Youngest it's : Annemarie,Angelique,Angela&Alexandra ;D. 'Every dutch talks english': Well, when you're over here you'll talk to a lot of nerves people who all make mistakes because they're to nerves to talk english ;D. One of them is me. But you will notice that only the younger people can speak English, my grandparents can't speak a word english. Even my mom isn't really good at it, My dad on the other hand is really good at it, but that's no surprise because he works from time to time in London. '1667': That was the second war between us and England as I recall. back then we where called the United provinces and belgium was still a part of us. I think you mean 31 july 1667; Also called The raid of the Midway. We won After this war there where a few more. 'Holland': after the name change of the Frisian Count Dirk V he called west-friesland Holland. It's still is that part that we call holland. The name change took place in 1076. The name comes from the old dutch word: Holtland or Holdland. What means: Woodland. I don't know if you knew this, but our 'queen' Beatrix is according to our constitution(I think you call it) not our queen but our king. the dutch constitution doesn't 'know' the term queen ;D I will learn you some Dutch words, it's not hard but you talk really smooth if you know what I mean, And the dutch shut there words. I shall give you an example: My hamster was called bloem; What means flower in your language. Well You pronounce it like: Bloom. As in Orlando bloom , but don't stretch the oo. I think you'll say Bloooooooooooom. But it's just: Bloom, no stretching just keep the word short. I will do a few more later but for now I think it's enough information. It's early in the morning over here and I'm still not feeling well. My parakeet is driving me mad, she's screaming and flying around with a lot of noise.

Yes there is allot of talking going on about global warming, I think you know about the disaster of 1953 that struck the south/west side of the netherlands, there where 1835 dutch people killed, I think you call it the North sea flood. Well since then there's allot of building going on. There are men always on the lookout, and they're always making our dykes stronger. I prefer The Netherlands, Holland is the west part of The Netherlands to me. The part where Amsterdam is, We call It Noord-Holland, And beneath that there's Zuid-Holland. It means nothing else then North-Holland&South-Holland. I think that the Holland-thing comes from the early days when a big part of the Netherlands was called Holland. About the Skating: I know that book! I think there aren't many of my age who can say that. It's a real hype to act like you don't give a damn about books. I love skating on Natural ice, It's been about 4 years ago when we had the last strong ice. If the ice is strong enough and it's really cold you see allot of dutch people on the ice, they're all having fun. The Frisians(Yes!again, the frisians) have 1 big event on skates, we call it the Elf-steden-tocht. It's an almost 200 km long ride, they only do it when the ice is 15 centimeters thick. here's a map of the route they're skating.(The purple/blue line is the route) The last time there was enough ice, was I think, in 1997. So it's been 10 years.

All the dutch children learn English at high school, even before that. But there are parts of the Netherlands where there are more languages to learn at school. We learn at least 3 different languages besides our own. In my case that where: English,French&German. The only one, I think, I'm really good at is English. In Friesland, that's the most northern part of the Netherlands, they have a different language besides dutch, they call them self not dutch but Frisians ;D. The kids over there learn the Frisian language at school, they also have the most difficulties with the English language so I've noticed. I think it's just a matter of how much effort you put into it, everybody can learn a different language if they want to. Everyone of you can learn dutch, it isn't that hard.

@hamster82: My own dog(Queeny) is a crazy English C ocker Spaniel. I love her so much, but she isn't really pretty, she's to large and she doesn't have the flag on her tail that her breed needs to have. Queeny will become 6 at the end of the year. Than there's my moms Jack russel terrier, Nikita. She's been with us since '92. she's 15 years old. Nikita is still running like crazy, and playing whenever Queeny wants. I'm just home from my dad's house so I don't feel like posting pictures at the moment, but when I do you will see nikita isn't looking old & Queeny is really sweet-lookin', everyone falls in love with her sweet/cheeky face . pinky: How funny, Akira is a very pretty name. I known it to be a boys name actually, It means Intelligent. All The rats names have a meaning, all in different languages. And thanks for the compliment, I'm planning to give all my hamsters old/famous peoples/personality's names. Noor her sister was called Bloem(Flower) After the skunk in The Bambi-movie. Our weather is really weird. Just a week ago it was raining cats&dogs, and today it was nice. But this week it should be hot(by our standards ) I have school tomorrow, I think I won't go. I'm not really feeling like it. I'll take the day of, I'm having a pretty bad case of good weather-illness I'll keep all of you updated about my animals, me And the dutch people...if you keep me updated about the ups and downs in your lives

Hello, I think I should introduce myself. I'm Angela, 17 years old. I'm from the Netherlands. Someone(Pinky) pointed out this site and said I should take a look. So here I am My main passion at the moment are my rats. I've got 9 of those sweet creatures and 3 on the way. I share my home with 6 male-rats and 3 Ladies. My oldest rat is called Asher. Asher is a (almost) 1,5 years old male, Then there are Ratpax&Noa they're 2 brothers there both a different color. Ratpax&Noa became 1 in januari. After them there's 1 of my Ladies Akira is her name. she became 1 2 months ago. Then there are 3 boys, all born March 2006. There names are: Laviv(Semi-Hairless), Aedan and Amice. I did a sad discovery yesterday: My pretty boy Laviv has got a little lump next to his genitals, I'm hoping it's an abscess cause that means he could do without a surgery, I'm so afraid he would die in one. But back to introducing, the latest 2. They're 2 babygirls born in august They're called: Alannah&Stella. They came here covered with parasites, and Stella wasn't even 3 weeks old. So I had a hard time with her, because she still needed to be hand fad. Alannah is a very pretty girl, I was immediately head over heals in love. She has the prettiest markings I've ever seen. I'll show some pictures later, I need to make some new ones. Asher is my first rat ever, and I was in love with him from the moment I saw him. Still he's my sweetest baby and I couldn't do without him. Besides this 9 rats there are 5 rats who where really special to me but sadly all past away over the last 2 years. One of them was a girl named Neeka, I got here from the same horrible place as Alannah&Stella. Neeka was a Siamese rat, about 1 year old when I got her. I didn't know she was expecting a litter, she was just so tiny! on the day she would deliver I came up to my room en there was a lot of blood in the cage, I thought Neeka had killed one of the baby's but there was blood on her backside. So i put her in an old fishtank. I called the vet in town, and they said I shouldn't worry and if there wasn't any baby's in the morning I should come up and they give her a medicine to get her in labor. The baby's never came, and Neeka died because she was too old for yet another litter(she already had a few, so I heard much later). I was so angry! I could kill the girl I got her from, she had known Neeka was expecting but didn't tell me. I share my home with a bunch of different animals, besides the rats. There is a Parakeet named Flirty-birdie. A Dutch dwarf lop Named Bram. 2 Syrian hamsters, Eleonor Roosevelt(Noor) & Mister Humphrey Bogart. 2 dogs; Queeny&Nikita. And at my dad's we have a cat named Mulan. Feel free to ask me everything, and please correct me if I write something wrong. I'm still learning the english language, and I still think it's hard at times.
