Katie, I was looking at all the links you gave for Cotons and they are soooo cute. So far all the different doggies are just so special. Thanks for the knowledge.

Lyn--you're welcome, I'm glad you're liking this! Most of these breeds are NR or FCI, which means some are recognized in international show rings (Federation C...forget oops, I-international) and NR=not recognized by either FCI, CKC, AKC, etc.
This is pretty breed you guys, the Russian Spaniel from...where else...Russia and they're said to be good-natured, devoted dogs, and a good guard dog.

Comments? ^On what exactly? The aliments of spaniels and the Russian Spaniel not having them? The only thing I can think of to say is that it's a new breed not afflicted by the massive breedings that other dogs get affected with and are prone to.
This week is the beautiful Slovak Cuvac from Czechoslovakia and they're said to be alert, sweet, and strong. This is them here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovak_cuvac

This week is the cool looking Tamaskan Dog. They look like they could be a wolfdog, but in fact they are a breed of dog. They come from Finland and are said to be: intelligent, sociable, and a family dog. I put a few of these dogs in my 2010 story of the Iditarod.

Hey Katie, did I post those Meet the Breeds photos for you?? ^Um, if you did I don't remember.
Why were they created? ^I'm guessing people like to breed different breeds together, maybe with a wolf, and see what they get out of it. These dogs are supposed to be, like Lyn saw, strong. Protective of the family, but they are sociable, not a like a wolfdog.
It seems with the Malamute there was no need. ^For the Iditarod? No, too slow. The fast dogs I've learned for that kind of sport are: Alaskan Huskies, Eurohounds, Greysters, and other types of Huskies out there.
I love those Spitz types, and from what i read I would really enjoy this breed. ^That's awesome Andrea!!
I doubt there are any in canada though, ... maybe I'll check ^Hey you never know! In my dog breed calendar someone from the US has a Stabyhoun (one of my fave rare breeds) and they're from the Netherlands. So you never know!

I think I should start a Rare Dogs Breeds thread 3 soon! Lol, the first one ended at 18pgs too.
So I guess this will be the last dog for the second thread. And he's the Balkan Hound, or as you'll see aka the Serbian Hound, from Yugoslavia and they're said to be obedient, pleasant, and sort of noisy.

He looks very happy in that photo.
>>the breed is thought to descend from dogs left in the Balkan region by the Phoenicians in ancient times.
The Serbian Hound is a very kind breed of dog, forming bonds with its family and owners. It is a lively breed and loves to walk and play with loved ones.<<
