My sister (the one that hates people like Andrea does--recall her response to the dog-thrown-out-the-window story?) sent me a story and pictures today. A guy decided to camp alone in the high Yukon in polar bear territory. A bear tore into his tent and attacked him. He was badly injured, but he still managed to shoot and kill the bear. The story's take is that he's lucky to be alive. Her and my take on it is that he was an idiot. So of course after relating this she wrote, "I hate people."

I read an article in Newsweek today. . . . it talks about how movie DVD producers are putting inserts into their DVDs that are aimed at cautioning viewers who might want to run out and buy the dog breed featured in the movie. There were runs on (and then massive abandonments of ) Dalmatians with "101 Dalmatians" in 1996, and the same with huskies after 2002's "Snow Dogs." So now Disney has told purchasers of "Eight Below" to do research before buying a husky, and in "The Shaggy Dog" viewers are cautioned that bearded collies aren't for everyone. While this shows the extent to which some people need to be saved from themselves , if it helps curb the number of unwanted dogs, then it's a good move.

As I understand it, yes. Or maybe it was worse than that and that's what my parents could/would tell an 11 year-old.
But back to the photo: pretty dog!

When I read this, I said, "Afghan??" Then I went back to the pictures. I missed that one somehow! Cool! I haven't seen one in a while. Growing up, I had a neighbor with one named Sheba. What hipbones! But speaking of bones, she got hold of some chicken ones and that was the end of her. Sad.

Very cool--wish I could be there! But I shall be spending my Saturday grading exams. Sigh. Maybe you could take some pictures, DF, and share them with us??

But the best carrier of all is the purple plastic pumpkin that I've used to transport Critter and Pinky. ;D Never Fuzz, though--he's more than two and hasn't been anywhere since the day he was brought home.

Oh, that was just an interesting observation--not an insinuation that the bizarro guy was behind the page!

Nice, Hollie! Yay for helpful dads! It is nice to see that--weren't your parents less than thrilled about you having another hamster?
I hope Yuiko comes to enjoy that fun-looking cage!

What y'all do for your animals! ;D That makes Fuzz's aquarium look like a shack! But it's nice that they have such a stimulating home. . .

Yes, one does get to know the sounds that go with the critters. Fuzz sometimes scratches repeatedly at the bottom of the aquarium (at least it sounds like that's what he's doing--I can't see because he's under the bedding when he does it). Given the tunnels he creates down there I guess he's just pushing bedding around when he does that. That noise disturbed me when I first heard it, but now that I think I know what it is and that he's ok after he does it, I'm not bothered.

Fuzz is about a yard from my head too. The sound I do hear is comforting--I know that he is happily running away. . .
