I didn't expected Stella would get to this age. With Alannah dying last march with a big lump in her groin I thought Stella would get one too and I would also have to put her down before she would turn 2...Alannah wasn't even 1,5 y.o. and came from the same "breeder"
my girls are all in one group, their cage is 80x50x160 cm.
The boys are in 2 groups because I haven't got a cage anymore that's big enough for the 6 of them. So Ace,Knight,Dai&Texas are in 1 group, and Jackpot&Apple pie live together in a different cage. But when I have the boys out they're all out together, and next month I'll have a new/bigger cage for them so they can all live in 1 cage.

Because my groups are ever growing at the moment, I think I forgot to introduce a few of my girls to y'all.. First the latest edition that's already in my girls-cage: This is Ava, her full name is: Shades of Avalon. I picked her up on dec 21th. She's originally from English breeding, was imported to Belgium by truck and that's where I "found" her. Together with 1 sister en 1 brother she "moved" to Dai kin's breeder and I picked her up there. She's a Black-eyed Sealpoint Siamese top-eared probably Dumbo-carrier. She's born on oct. 3th 2008 This one will be moving in with me in about 1 or 2 weeks: Her name is Lulabelle, and she comes from the same breeder as Dai kin, honey&Immie. she's also a Black-eyed Sealpoint Siamese but she's Dumbo. Her dad comes from Denmark Then my oldest girl, Stella. She'll be 2,5 y.o. in about 1,5 week She's still doing fine, except for loosing a lot of weight she hasn't got any problems. Honeybee is finally looking like a real rat, instead of looking like a mouse that's gotten to big She hasn't got any resemblance to her grandmother; Namari, who really is my little cuddly bear. Honey's always to busy with other things. Then there's Imaginary Superstar; Immie looks a lot like her mother, being a busy and curious pain in the but. Her breeder and I make a habit of complaining to each other about both of them But she's also a sweetheart, giving me kisses and sleeping on my shoulder. I'm hoping for her to get a litter in march/April, I would love to have a daughter of her. The only 2 girls missing are Namari&Amor Fati, both are doing fine but I haven't got any recent pictures of them on the laptop. Moortje has a small lump under her chin, it's the 2th one, the last one disappeared on it's own so I'm hoping this 1 will do the same

All the ratteries I choose to get my rats from are screened by myself..I know they profid their rats with the best possible care there is.
Rats can live perfectly in a group of 3..it doesn't mater how much as long as the cage is big enough and they don't fight.
My rats get out about 4 to 6 hours per day/per group, and then they can roam free. I have a small scratching pole with a tube and stuff like that lying around in my room, so they have things to climb on or sleep in. I don't have cats living with me at the moment, Mulan lives at my dad's and the only dog that can get near the rats is Queeny because she wouldn't hurt them. Neeka&Jesse are getting to know the rats step by step, but donna&Sonja have to stay away from them. And the electrical wires are all up high or covered so they can't get to them, although my rats usually don't take notice of them when they are withing reach..they have enough stuff to play with

My latest rats are all from Rattery-breeders, and I'm starting my own this year I might be posting kitten-pictures in about 3 or 4 months ;D Last week I got a new girl, I'll post a new thread about her later. When you get down to the last boy out of your litters try to introduce him to Max and his future companion..it might just work. And try to introduce 2 new kittens to Max and his future buddy when they're about 1,5 yrs old. No rat should live alone I had Laviv, you remember? My patchwork Fuzz boy, I didn't ever had problems with him in my male group..Most people are concerned about the lack of hair on those cuties, eather because they miss 1 communication-future or because they are afraid they'll get cold. Only thing 1 can say; Laviv was always a little warm thing that was very social with my other boys. Only thing you should think about is that you have to moisterise the skin of a hairless/fuzz with something like Vaseline or Allantoin once a week About the thricks; Because Amor Fati is a very clever girl that likes to do things for treats i'm trying rat-agility with her..It's very funny to watch her. She kan climb a hanging rope, walk over rope like an acrobat, walk the see-saw and the A-frame, I made weave poles this week and she's getting the hang of that too.. to get an idea of what she can do here's a little clip of some other rat(not mine!): www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mrJ_3ta35AAlso basic stuff; I usually have the girls roaming free trough my bedroom, the stairs and the hall. When I whistle next to the cage they know it's time to go back in and then all the girls come running from everywhere, and at the door they wait for me to pick them up, put them in the cage and give them a treat. They also follow me when I go up or down the stairs..very funny, because Namari is very impatient but doesn't want to walk in front so sometimes when I go to slow she bites me in my heel

I've always had a bunch of rats, at the moment I have 6 boys and 6 girls. I get very stressed about my babies when one of them is sick..at the moment I'm checking Stella everyday if she has any tumors or weird lumps, until now(2 yrs and 5 months old) she is still in good health. I have a special Vet.-piggy bank for the rats, Every month I throw in 50 euro's so I know for sure I can affort the vet The last time I had to see the vet is a few months ago. There's about 500 euro's in my piggy bank at the moment ;D I can't quit having rats just now..maybe in a couple of years when the hurt of losing them takes over the joy of having them in my life, but I truly hope that never happens....They are so full of affection and they always make me laugh Maybe you can take up 2 young kittens from a rescue litter now, and in about 1,5/2 yrs take 2 more, so when 1 of the older ones dies his/her buddy isn't alone...And with rats of different ages you don't have them all sick/dying at once

>>When I was there (see the Christmas Activities thread in Members Only) the Dutch family was making "donut holes" which they said was common in families at the time (1690), and they had a Dutch name. Do you know that name?<< Hmm..."Oliebollen" maybe?(that picture is so small, I can't really see the things on her plate) We traditionally eat them on New year's eve, I usually make them for my parents&Grandparents: Natural Oliebollen, raisin oliebollen and "Appelbeignetten"(apple-fritters?) I'm not a big fan of the raisin oliebol(I don't like raisins in warm food), but appelbeignet are my favorites *looking forward to next week* ;D

I'm not completely sure, because I couldn't find anyone other then my grandfather to confirm this story, but I thought(en he is almost completely sure) it symbolizes the fertility of the earth or something like that... My great-grandfather told my grandfather those things were already made by Germanic people even before Constantine 1 decided we had to celebrate Christmas on dec. 25th. He told his kids about Yule, and my grandfather told it to my mom&aunt and to his grandchildren...But I wouldn't remember the name of that thing even if my life depended on it My grandparents have one that's about 150 yrs old, it's not that pretty anymore but it's been in the family for a long time, it's made out of ceramic&Painted apples/pears/leafs..we all revere to it as: That fruit-thingy Sorry I can't help you any further..None of my friends ever heard of such a thing Anywayzz..Merry Christmas!!! ;D

>>I guess I am more like a Syrian hamster!<< To be realy honest...me too. But my example is just for people to see how rats will feel without company I'm not a big star in people skills, but that's part of my "disorder" says my Psychiatrist. I don't really mind, I have some friends and my family knows how I am. I don't need to talk all day, or be "entertaint" by other people..Just give me a book and some music and I'm happy ;D So i'm also more like a Syr I guess....

He's beautiful..I think he's either Silver blue or American/slate blue There is one other option but I don't know if that color is common over there (And I only know the "dutch" name) I like the name..But I just like every name that "means" something ;D Personaly I would try to get him a friend of his own age, but that depents on your other guys offcourse. @katie:Rats can't live alone..That's cruel. Although allot of people think: If I give my rat 2 hours of attention per day, It'll be okay. But they forgett about the other 22 hours left in a day that the rat will be alone, without someone to play/sleep on/eat with/communicaty with. I usually compare it to humans: We don't like to be all alone, we need to have some human contact, even if it's not every day. If I would be trapped in a small room, only see someone else 2 hours a day and then get locked back in the room I would go crazy..The same goes for rats. And Humans are not rats, we can't replace a congener *Edit: About the soft fur: I guess he's still in his kitten-fur

Gypsy vanner..We call those "Tinkers" I love them..I used to ride one named Happy, Very cute animal, he only did one speed and that wasn't fast at all ;D It's one of my favourite breeds, he's defenitly in my top 5 About the stripe; There are more breeds that have them, not even all Fjords have one..The color "gulblakk" doesn't have a stripe. And it's not allways black 3 or 4 of the Arabians at te stables I worked also had a Stripe down the spine...Duval(The stallion) had one, and allmost all his foals had one, even the greys. Foals of an arabian aren't that pretty at all in their first few weeks...it's all legs This is cute too: www.culmvalleyminiatures.co.uk/Images/FoalL.jpgShetland foal pagesperso-orange.fr/Sherpa-Rhone-Alpes/image_115.jpgAlso on my top 5 of favourite horses, The French Cheval de Mérens My top 5 breeds at the moment: 1 Fjord 2 Belgian Horse 3 Cheval de Mérens 4 Tinker/Gypsy vanner 5 Clydesdale
