knitted things are verrrry dangerous for rats.... a friend of mine almost lost 1 of her girls some weeks ago because she got stuck in a knitted thing with her head..she almost couldn't breathe anymore en her neck was very swollen I make my own hammocks, have a lot of fun doing that. I made these for the boys, a few weeks ago: Same things for the girls, only in different colors:

I have to agree with katie on the PETA-thing they do good work too, but I usually don't like the way they handle things..
but it's always better than Greenpeace

So I picked up a new girl today...again I just couldn't help myself, she needed a home and I fell in love. her former "owner" dumped her 2 days ago outside a Vet. clinic, in a very small cage. The same day I saw her on a Mice-forum...and today I picked her up. I Named her Mystical Faerie, she's about 7 weeks old. I think her color is Silver blue, but She still has her kitten-fur so she could also be a different blue-color. Faerie is very skinny, she's only 69 gr. That's how much a kitten should weigh when it's about 4,5 weeks old. Her tailbase is square, so she didn't get the proper food. I'm very happy with her, although she's gone through allot in her short live she really is a sweetheart. she's really curious and loves attention.

I just found my youngest girl dead...I'm so in shock right now, I just can't believe she's gone already. I had her for only 10 days, but I looked forward to having her even before she was born. It's just not fair May it be an evening star Shines down up on you May it be when darkness falls Your heart will be true
You walk a lonely a road Oh how far you are from home
Mornie utulie Believe and you will find your way
Mornie alantie A promise lives within you now
May it be the shadows call Will fly away May it be your journey on To light the day
When the night is overcome You may rise to find the sun
Mornie utulie Believe and you will find your way
Mornie alantie A promise lives within you now.....
Text: May It Be - EnyaI love you baby, have fun on the Bridge with all the other rats...send them my love

the other onces I don't like because of the small doors, and the white bars

They sure aren't mink or Russian blue...knight&Ace are mink, one blue-based and the other chocolate-based. Namari is russian blue. Slate = Slate blue, and that's the colors Max is.
they can be a "mismarked" black, or they could be Silvered, usually those are lighter than a "normal" black and often are revered to as "cordovan chocolat"

sweet boy&Girl, but they look "just" black to me...black berkshire/mitted Telly looks very small next to the new kid, are they older? Or is telly just a small boy? (laviv wasn't big either, he was only 385 gr as an adult, very small compaired to Asher and the other boys who where all at least 580/600 gr)

Those tubes are from ferplast, I bought them at the petstore The calculator I usually use only says "if space is used wisely"..wel I think I use the space wisely so no problems there..Soon there will be more platforms in there, I've ordered them already so I'm waiting on the package to arrive. But I'm not getting more boys so it stays with 6 in there, and the girls are also with 6 at the moment

So yesterday my mom and her BF gave me a big surprise; 2 brand new rat-cages! exactly the one I already wanted for the boys, so I'm very happy ;D today I cleaned all of their toys and stuff and 'build' the cages. I only made some pictures of the girls-cage: It's still a bit empty, but that's because the hammocks where in the washer. I also ordered some new stuff; comfort wheels suspension bridges and things like that the cage is 100x52x120 cm, so it's pretty big(it can hold up 11 rats)

I'm completly against breeding tailless, as are most/all of the dutch ratteries *thankgod*..if a rat was meant to look like a hamster it would be by nature
That tail is there for a reason, just like our arms..It helps them keep their balance, hold on to stuff to prevent them from falling but it also plays a major role in their heat-regulation. A healthy rat will 'store' it's bodywarmth in his tail when he's warm enough or to cool down, a tailless rat can't do that, so when it's a hot summer that rat is going to die from a heatstroke because he can't get rid of his bodywarmth fast enough..and only because it's owner is afraid or disgusted by it's tail
I like the tails..it's interesting to see them use it

I only give peanut butter when I have to give one of the rats some kind of medicine and they don't like the taste of it. I always mix it with water or a little bit of catmilk, because it's so sticky they can choke on it.
