Yup. In a nutshell: I put a bunch of little signs together and decided to test Mable's urine. It took a while to get her to pee in the jelly jar a la Frasier, and I had to get new test strips, but when all came together the evidence was incontrovertible. Tomorrow we go to the vet to see if anything else is going on. She has packed on a lot of weight for no good reason of late. Right now I am trying a natural method of control: seeds of the plant fenugreek can be used as a hypoglycemic. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FenugreekToo early to say if it's working. Another strategy involves using oral medication. I'll see what the vet says. Thankfully she isn't "sick" with this--all systems are normal save the sugar in the urine--but in time she'd decline, and I love my spirited girl too much to let her go before her time. Will post again post-vet visit.

They're noisy, they flock, and they make a mess. They're NOT skittish and so they annoy people.

Wow, the buns are still such different sizes! Well, that happens with human siblings, so why not them too?
Jason is a handsome feline, and everyone looks pretty comfortable being together. Cool!

Are Chinese hams illegal in NYC? They used to be in CA and may still be. In NJ a few years ago they required a permit; it may still be this way. DF, this may explain why you have never seen one in the flesh.
Dezzi, how nice that your "kids" get along! What do hedgies eat?

Yup. People hate them but I like to watch them and listen to their strange vocalizations. They are not federally protected, so if you happened upon an injured one you could care for it and even make it a pet without breaking the law.

Greetings, Linda! Good to hear from you! I'm with DF--I can handle the losses--but I know many who can't. But you were a great rattie mommy, and if the opportunity presents itself maybe you will indeed dust off the cages and etc.!

Spinys sound interesting. Never heard of them till I came to the forum. What is "spiny" about them?

Welcome back! LOVE the photos! I find it so cool when couples get out of the box of tradition and make their union their own. Glad you had a beautiful day for it all. "Up-country": still BC? I've been in Alberta and remember vistas similar to what you show. The honeymoon of my long-gone marriage was in Colorado and Wyoming, some of it spent keeping company with cowboys at a hunting camp and riding through golden aspens on horse- and muleback. So happy that you have someone in your life to support you through all the rough stuff.

Really nice, Tom. So many different ones, too! Also cool to see what your area looks like. Not sure I've ever been in Brooklyn. Which shot looks most like your immediate neighborhood?

Sorry. I looked at the pix and meant to get back to the thread but never did.
You have an attractive bunch there! Did they come named or did you name them? I like Fred and Fiona!
My sister knows approximately how often her Blackbeard needs to poop and so if she can she holds him over the trash at the appropriate times and he will go on command. But she is always in an old T-shirt when he is out and she is wearing him.

I didn't realize that you have a Mabel and I have a Mable! :-) In my case the spelling was the rescue's choice, and I never change the names of the rescued, so she has an unconventional spelling. I actually go back and forth between calling her "May-bul" and "Mah-blay" (pretending that there is an accent on that e!). She responds to both.
Anyway, congrats on the rattie kids. Hope mites don't revisit. Ugh. Have never had to deal with them here, thankfully.

So Asia is on the left in the photos where both are visible? Yes, in that one shot the difference is quite remarkable!
What comes to mind is a concern that one or the other has a malady that has caused her to gain/lose weight. Perhaps something will reveal itself as you feed them and observe their habits. I always think first of teeth. How easy is it to check a rabbit's teeth?

Tom, I have relationships with two rabbit rescues these days because Ping and Mable came from these facilities. If you ever need rabbit advice I could certainly throw your questions out to them. I'm no help, after all--I'm only the crazy hamster lady!
